Hi

Special interests to me, are times when I have a specific interest on one thing. Usually it is only one thing, although there may be times when I can have an interest in a few things.

Basically, my special interests usually appear (or form?) unexpectedly. Some have included becoming very interested in specific TV shows, and during the period which the interest is strongest or new, I do a lot of research into it, watch the episodes multiple times etc. It's similar with music. Specific topics of interest also include magic too, I've spent a long time researching and buying things related to this.

I could make a long list of interests. But I'd like to talk about how they usually work.

Basically, it'll start unexpectedly usually. It may be a previous interest, or a new interest. I will then be very foccussed on this, it'll be the topic of conversation that I always either bring up, or move the conversation to talk about. It will be that this is almost all I am interested in and foccussing on other things (even if they are more important, can be very difficult.) Then, strangely as fast and unexpected as they start, they seem to end too. And I'll usually move onto something else, sometimes I have periods of time between very strong interests though.

Can anyone relate?

Is there anyway to control this so that you can also focus on other more important things?

And is there anyway to stop yourself from continually changing the conversation over to your special interest?

Usually, my special interests are there partially because of availability. Like, both of my parents are in the nursing profession, and I grew up on the Internet, so of course, one of my special interests is health.

I also go through "favorite people". Right now, my Ohio friend/cousin-in-law, Chrissy, is my favorite person, and it's the first time that I'm friends with my favorite person. I wonder if I can have more than one favorite person.
