Stories of Autism is a project me and Alex have been working on. The goal of Stories of Autism is to document the life and real stories of every person with Autism. I think this will help with Autism Awareness by giving people a chance to walk in our shoes.

Here is how it works: You write a story and PM it to me. Soon after that, I will upload them to the website. It's that simple. I can make your story anonymous, or you can allow me to post your WP.net nickname. I will try to get your story uploaded within 3 days.

Guidelines: It has to be longer than one paragraph (6 sentences). It can has to be about someone with Autism eg, You, your child, your sister, etc. You also need to keep people in the story anonymous if you are going to talk about people outside your family.

Thanks,
ccallahan

That's a great idea.

I think it will be really helpful for people.

Although - perhaps one point.
Many of us have issues with structure. Perhaps if you can give us an idea or guideline of what to include, or even a list of questions, and perhaps a word approximation, that might help.
At least we have somewhere to start with what to include or what not to include so it's not overwhelming - you might have more people post stories that way.

And of course, if people don't want to use it the guideline then they don't have to and can just do their own thing.

My son is only 5 so he can't speak for himself. It's OK if I tell our story? It could be intersting to understand living with Autism in Italy and tell about prejudices and backwardness of education, but also to tell about people who is our friend and help us.

I thought NTs didn't have any issues putting themselves in other people's shoes?

I have found many NT's that say "I could never understand what it's like for you" and many other things in that area.

I know that, but I hear so much of ''Autistics lack empathy'' and ''NTs have empathy'' on this forum that I get so confused.

Does this apply to those with official DX, Or those awaiting (possibly) a formal DX ( which would be me, I guess. Though I am now dragging my feet a bit..)?

Sincerely,
Matthew

Will do!

When do you need our stories? Do you recommend anonymity?

I'm beginning to think that the opposite is true.

If you suspect or you have Autism, or you are DX'd, then I will allow it.
