People think I am from another country or I have some kind of accent. But I have lived here my whole life. This happens from time to time and has been going on for as long as I can remember. Anyone else have this sort of experience?

In the past, people have assumed that I came from another country, not because of my accent, but because I'm so quiet. They assumed that I couldn't speak English.

Some people on the spectrum do have somewhat unusual accents. I have noticed that some pronunce the letter "t" in a rather unusual way.

Yep, happens about once a month or so for me. I get anywhere from down south to people thinking I'm like, British or European. Oh well. I'm not even incredibly quiet either. I think it's more I just don't call people "bro" and my mannerisms seem atypical for someone my age, possibly like someone older, ie, at 18 or 19 I was offered complimentary wine at a restaurant, no ID or anything, just because I was wearing Dockers and a sweater and was by myself. So I guess I should take it as a compliment, people thinking I'm older/am a foreigner?

I have lived in the Los Angeles area my whole life. In the last decade I have traveled outside of America but this was going on way before that. In the last few years it has been less so but I think that is because I am interacting with so many Asians who are non native born.

People think this about me all the time........but then I have an olive complexion and black hair so maybe I look like I'm from another country.....I'm Eastern European Jewish. I have been told by one person that she thought I was British bcs of my "accent". I was born in the states, moved to Canada when I was two years old and have lived here ever since. My friend said she could see why the other girl thought that because of my intonation patterns. So I guess it's a combination of looking foreign (having dark skin and hair) having a weird intonation pattern (though my voice does have a lot of inflection......not monotone at all, never has been......I guess it's just weird inflection, and weird mannerisms that I have.....people conclude that I come from another country. I've had people go as far as when I say I was "born here" to keep asking "well where were your parents from?" , my answer :"here", "your grandparents?" my answer: "here", their response "really"? my answer : yes.

I have been asked if I'm mixed race. Someone claimed I am (my dad is half English and half Maltese) and then there was a debate as to whether I really am. :?
