Saw my very nice GP this afternoon and he was more than happy to refer me to a specialist for an Asperger diagnosis. To be honest I wasn't sure what to expect but normally I prepare for the fob off. It could take months to get seen but at least I have got somewhere at long last.

Hope it works out well for you. :) I'm still trying to work up the courage to see my GP.

I'm just a little bit ahead of you. I got a letter from the diagnostic place saying they were applying for funding from my PCT, but haven't heard anything since.

i'm kind of with you. my gp recommended a therapist in town, who i saw and in turn, he referred me to a psychologist. i'll be seeing the psychologist next week! i thought i'd be having an evaluation straight away, but i've been corrected in that he'll give me a brief assessment at the first appointment to see what type of evaluation tests (if any) he'll have me do at a later appointment.

i'm fairly excited, but apprehensive at the same time!

i hope all goes well for y'all

Do you know if a particular GP at your surgery specialises/has an interest in ASD and/or mental health? The one I saw today was, plus he is the easiest going.

My GP is very nice and very supportive. My experience with the psychiatrist he sent me to was a bust. The first thing out of his mouth that it was highly unlikely I would have gotten to my age without a diagnosis: case closed. I went to a psychologist with ample experience on my own and, though he followed through on a full evaluation, he needed no convincing of my diagnosis. Experience is the difference. It is good to have the GP behind you, but please don't be discouraged if your referral doesn't pan out if you hope. Have 'plan B' in place. I do hope it goes well for you the first time, though.

I don't really know. I can't read body language at the best of times but my GP just is absolutely impossible to read so i can't tell if they're annoyed or happy or anything so i find them quite scary.

I spoke to my GP a couple of weeks ago and am also waiting for my refferal to come through. It's going to be a long couple of months but I need to have the opinion of an experienced professional. I am about 99% sure though as I seem to be such a textbook case it's weird it's taken so long to realise.
