I'm super indecisive about going places and doing things.

Even when it's something I like, or look forward to, I still have this ambiguity toward it (and lack of energy).
I think it's because I don't like getting out of my comfortable, intellectual, and introverted world, unless I feel prepared and in control.

I'm wondering if other aspies have this issue.
I know someone (who I suspect has Asperger's) who also does this same thing about not sure what they want to do, if they want to do it, if they want to stay home, if this, if that.

I think a problem is that these things threaten our sense of control and make us more prone to over-stimulation, anxiety, and depression.

But I don't know.

Anyone else have such a hard time deciding??

Yes. I always figured it had to do with my routines so I felt trapped in them and I had a hard time being flexible. I always had to push myself to do it. But yet when I was a kid, I had no problem with it because everyone else made the decision and decided for me and it was easier for me to go along with it. I think it was because they did the planning and stuff and I didn't have to do any of it. Now that I do, I started to face my difficulty when I was on my own. Now my husband has to force me and I sometime get stressed over it because I can't decide what to do.

I would say yes, it is an Aspie trait. I had this problem even in school, when writing a story, I didn't know what to name my character, and I didn't want to give the wrong name. Even though I knew there was no wrong name, I couldn't move on to the story until I decided. If I thought of Bob, I would think of Jeff, which would make me think of a guy I knew named Jeff, and what he did that weekend and all his friends and what friends we had in common and who liked to watch baseball and what time the Orioles were playing and whether Cal Ripken would get into the Hall of Fame and why I'm worried about baseball when I have a story to write.

Well, I am definately very indecisive. Don't know if it's an AS trait though.

It takes me a long time to decide things, and then to express what I've decided.

I don't know... but I do know that I'm an Aspie and that I'm indecisive...so I guess if a LOT of other Aspies are indecisive I guess it MIGHT be...but I've never heard any information on that.

it depends a bit on what the issue is. but I can be terribly indecisive.
For instance something as simple as going to the grocery store or put it on hold for another day.

I'm VERY indecisive and so is my mummy (who has some aspie traits -severe sensory issues anyway).

I don't think it's an aspie trait though.......never read about it an a book about AS and I've read a lot of them.........although it seems a lot other aspies do have it................I can't decide

I should put a poll on here just to see.

But I can't decide.

As far as the decision I made tonight, well, it was the wrong one. But that's what happens when you let people tell you what you should do.

Our brains take longer to process information; albeit in more detail. This causes delays compared to the NT method of rushing it.

We also have more factors, such as issues with the destination and sensory stuff or messing with routine.

I wonder if it is because I take in so much more information and it just takes longer for me to process these things. I have so many more questions that should be answered, before I feel safe to make a final decision.

You know, I actually find it funny that "can't decide" is actually an option.

I find I'm unable to switch gears like the rest of the population. For me I have to goto school 2 hours before everyone else, so I can get in school mode. Otherwise the first few classes I'm just not interested.
