As a child, I I would frequently wander off, simply because I like to go exploring places and seeing things. This drove my parents crazy, as they were always having to track me down because I was "missing". I knew where I was, and how to get back, but I didn't want to, there were places to go and things to check out!

Now than I'm an adult, I can wander off and explore things without anybody calling me back, or grabbing me by the arm when I find something interesting. Even better, I can hop in my car and drive down a road I've never been on just to see what's down it. It helps too that I have a job that actually requires me to rummage around in attics, projection booths, and other obscure locations in buildings that most people wouldn't otherwise go!

Any of you all just like looking around and exploring just for the sake of it?

I am a treasure hunter....in the woods or beach looking for plants, bugs and "nature art",or dumpster diving, garage sales, thrift stores...I must look at every thing and think how I could use it.I thought I would do well at apartment "turn-overs" if it wasnt for some off the scary smells.I even have dumpster dreams where I find boxes of jewels and such.I love "sploring"....(as a kid I did get lost a lot)I just stopped for a second to look at the pile of rocks and my parents ran away...how is that my fault!! !!

I am quite the explorer myself.

I have two different things that I do.

When I'm with somebody, I follow them like a shadow.

When I'm alone, I wander aimlessly. I love to walk. I once walked from Manchester to Salford Quays accidently, and another time deliberately walked from Manchester to Fallowfield, and back.

When I lived in Longsight, I regularly walked back from the town centre at night because the buses don't run after half eleven.

Emma.

Yes. I have always liked to go exploring (usually by myself)

Once I was just walking to the supermarket (takes 5-10 minutes) and felt like going exploring.
I was gone for over 5 hours, walking around the town, going down streets and areas that I'd not been to before.

The great thing about that is that you can get lost in the town, but you're never really far from anything
(so you're not totally lost)

...it's also a very good time to think.

I like to watch the people, and all the things that are going on, and just loose myself in all that.
Its very relaxing
:D

I like to watch people and all the goings on too David. I enjoy just taking a seat at a bench in the mall, and look at all the people. One of my favorite places to do this too is Times Square in New York. Listening to all the languages, looking at all the clothing, all the signboards & lights, etc

Yes! I love wandering in the woods and nature preserve by my house for hours. I feel recharged afterwards. Cities are great too. If you're from the US and you ever go to Europe, try wandering Rome. It's amazing!

At summer, when the sun is shining and I can wear shorts and t-shirt, I love to walk around in the mountains watching the view of the city far below. I live in Bergen, a city in Norway surrounded by some pretty immense mountains. First, I like to sit on the mountaintop and enjoy the view, get a nice tan and then I start wandering around up there just looking at everything with no apparent purpose. Its a very liberating experience.

I used to love wandering around and exploring when I was a kid. Whenever I walked home from school, I would wander into side streets just to see what was there. Other times I would take a completely different route. As I should have expected, this set me up as a prime target for bullying. Some people in the class told me to go down a certain street, which led in the direction opposite of my home, and being the naive aspie that I was, I would believe them, because of the "wonderful sights" on that street they described. After an unfortunate incident described below, I took a one-month break from exploration, staying only on the main streets that led directly to my home. Afterwards, I went back to exploring, but this time, sticking to non-residential areas.

One time, I walked into a dead-end side street where there were some kids playing ball. I walked around in circles, absorbed in my own fantasy world. Suddenly, those kids started insulting me and throwing candy wrappers at me. I quickly ran back into the main street, with two of the kids chasing me. The only reason why they turned around and went back is because there was a police car stopped at the red light.

yes! this is why i love shopping in thrift or discount stores. you have to search through all the junk and discover treaures. i love going in people's attics and basements. i would love to go to a family reunion solely for the joy of looking through my old relative's attics and all the neat stuff. i also explore in stores and along the streets. it can take me a few hours to get out of a grocery store since i have to investigate everying. when i go to stores with my parents or friends, i always wander off to look at something without even realising it, and then i get lost and can't find my people. usualyy they know where to look for me.

I have always been an explorer and wanderer I remember going into all kinds of abandoned buildings and construction sites while I was growing up. Now I don't do as much my job is in construction so at least most of the time it's legal  I also enjoy estate sales and have been to many packed houses it can be lots of fun you never know what you will find which is the best part. Here is an interesting web site about urban exploring http://uem.minimanga.com/

I love wandering too.

I prefer walking to taking the bus, it's more interesting. People say me I lose a lot of time walking when the bus can take me to the same place in less time. But I get bored of bus, because it pass the same route every day, and I can take every day a different way if I walk.

I'm a treasure hunter too. I almost always find things when I walk from my house to the school and viceversa. I can find a marble, a curious stone, a reptil, some money, . . . who knows what I will find tomorrow.

Also, I always investigate everything, for example, I check the refrigerator and food storages in my house, if I find a new item, I know my mom went to the supermarket without me (I like exploring in supermarkets and stores, and I get angry when my mom goes without me), and I can guess exactly when my mom bought every item. Next, with previous information, I try to guess why my mom bought every item and what she will cook exactly with them. When my mom appears I told her my investigation results, and my mom confirm them. I have the correct answer always. My mom gets surprised everytime I guess.

My mother was recalling some of my unique characteristics she observed from an early age.

For example, When I was young, I noticed that when I went to a water cooler that it would start humming, and the water would get cool when I opened the valve...so I looked underneath to see what was making the water cool.

Whenever we would go to a theater, and I got lost, my mom could find me in a projection booth, or at least trying to figure out how to get up there!

Hell yes!! I've considered myself an explorer and wanderer for a very long time. It's great to be independent with my own income, that way I can do a lot of travelling around the world and learn all the different languages and cultures. And the best part is, I can totally act like my usual goofy stupid self, and blame it on my being a tourist!! People expect me to be different anyway, so there's no pressure at all! I highly recommend it. 8) 8)
