apparently I'm not as literal as a lot of NTs...

Beyond blue, an initiative to combat depression, has released an ad on discrimination against LGBT people.

A lot of people on you tube and their facebook page take it as an ad discriminating agaist left-handed people, and fail to see this as a metaphor. A lot were wondering why the ad was made as they hadn't seen any discrimination against lefties (Maybe they haven't watched the ad to the end.)One even said that it was disgusting as his left handed child would now be bashed and vilified for being gay. Occaisionally these comments were interspersed by people saying it was a great ad, and/or that a lot of people just weren't getting it.

And I thought I was literal. I don't know maybe it just says something about a lot of people that frequent social media.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't call failure to recognise the gist of the ad as literal, more like stupid, or lacking a sense of humour...

These are probably the same people who will take a song warning about the danger of drug use as promoting drug use, or talking about fighting satan as worshipping satan, or think Jello Biafra actually wants to kill the the poor.

I noticed too that most of people have troubles understanding irony or metaphors.

It makes me think that they are either stupid, either too lazy to get the message.

In my opinion, many are just stupid and biased. No wonder why so many people are so full of hatred and discrimination.

They are so focused on their little biased world that they can't accept being wrong.

Or that Jello Biafra wants people to be eaten by his pets. Nice reference, I used to be quite a fan of Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine.

Would people the watched the ad and understood it really want to comment when there are so many comments not getting the ad so it could be selection bias on who comments is not a fair picture?

I would have taken it literal so call me stupid. Yes I did watch the whole thing.

Wait, does Asperger's excuse my "stupidity?"

I took it literally until the last 10 seconds. I imagine the organization name would confuse people though.

I am quite openly gay at my school. People are afraid to mess with me luckily, otherwise they'd probably be cruel about it.

Didn't mean to generalize, so:
Not all the people are stupid but some might be confused.
Some might be confused but some might be stupid as well.
Therefore, not all the people are stupid but some of them are.

Or maybe most of them are confused because of aspergers? :?
