I use to be really huge on cartoons when I was younger, but recently(or i guess not recently, maybe the past several years).. although I have access to netflix, hulu, and other things.. I just don't feel like I can watch tv shows or movies, like it's too much dedication to something that just doesn't really make a difference to me anymore or my focus just isn't there. People around me go to the movies and they're always exclaiming up and down how good something is for one reason or another, but I just feel like I'm not missing out on anything if I don't watch it.

I also feel like I can't pay attention long enough to watch things, especially if I get interrupted at any point of time. It takes me a while to wind down enough to get back into watching it/doing whatever.

Anyone else get like that?

I've become like that with reading. Not so much watching things, I can zone out when watching things.

Yeah, same here in a way.

Doing things with my hands is easier, I'm less likely to be torn away from it (almost to the point of desperation if i have a time constraint)..

I've often developed a contempt for things that used to be special interests. I can get very bored with things I've already done or been through a couple of times. It's kind of paradoxical that an Aspie would feel like that, given our tendency to have restricted, repetitive, stereotyped interests and routines. The factor that affects it in me seems to be whether or not a thing seems to be developing. So a special interest will probably die if it doesn't break new ground every time I do it.

I have a long history of being utterly obsessed with whatever hobby fascinates me, but the moment the thrill of exploring a hobby wanes I lose interest completely. Occasionally I'll return to an old hobby after a long absence and there is the joy of rediscovery but the feeling rarely lasts.

I've reached the conclusion that I never really gave a s**t about any of the hobbies I've had, it was only the feeling of discovery that I pursued like a drug. It will sound callous but I've also had strikingly similar feelings towards people.
