I don't know what it is, but I am strangely drawn to vacuum cleaners.

I have a small collection of such cleaning gadgets, (despite the fact that I'm never on top of housework!) but I am really interested in the Dyson adverts and every time I see a picture/description of a vacuum cleaner I am so interested that it's almost an excitement.

I could easily get really into the internal workings of a vacuum machine and this interest is almost against my will.

I can't think of any reason I should feel this way, to all intents and purposes it seems like it should be a boring focus (or at least illogical) and I'm not exactly a domestic goddess. Is this weird or what? Is it AS related or am I just freaky!

Please someone reassure me that you have something similar.

I used to have a small collection of such cleaning devices also--not out of interest but because I seem to have a supernatural power of causing them to terminally malfunction after only a few uses. I refuse to live anywhere carpeted because of this.

I think there's somebody here who has a special interest in door opening mechanisms, so vacuums are really not weird at all.

If you like the Dyson ads, maybe you should move up to other things that work on cyclonic action, like certain parts of paper mills. I used to have to try to draw and animate these massive cyclones that cleaned recycled paper waste. I was bad at that job, but I would've loved to improve and keep doing it if I had been at a firm that wasn't run by a micromanager with a thick foreign accent and a bad temper. Paper mills are fascinating.

Well, I have been obsessed with things that I didn't want to be obsessed about and was very much embarassed to be so obsessed about.
I can understand why you find vacuum cleaners interesting, even though I don't share the same passion, maybe because of my weekly appointment with my Dyson (I renamed him R2-D2, but I digress). They're pretty cool machines and I don't think it's that weird to like them. After all, if there's people who project them (I'm thinking about the guy who created Dyson) there must be people who like them too.

Truthfully, I don't find this all that embarassing or worrying. Such an interest could easily stem into interests in what makes vacuum cleaners work (I cannot remember the term off of the top of my head) which is a valid interest.

Actually I've heard of people being interested in vacuum cleaners before...
Check out this news video of a 12 year-old who is obsessed with vacuums

I found a whole internet forum devoted to retro vacuum cleaner collectors when I was trying to figure out how old my Electrolux was. As it turns out, that vacuum was about the same age as me. Produced in 1982.

I still get embarrassed with my obsessions and in the past I have tried avoiding them by not looking it up. But it's still in my head. It becomes a guilty pleasure.

I am not obsessed with vacuum cleaners and never was.

I have an interest in antique electric fans that people find quite strange. I have a lot of cast iron and brass fans from the 1920s in my house that I use for their original purpose. I bet if you look around on the net you will find you aren't alone in this interest in vacuums, particularly if you are interested in antique ones as well as modern ones. you really can find a group around just about anything on the net.

It is normal for an aspie. It's just weird to you because it is vacuum cleaners and not something more common.

I'm a Pharmacy Tech, but on weekends, I cashier in the supermarket where the pharm is located. When I am checking out groceries I cannot let bags of dog food or dog treats go until I have looked at the dog on the packaging. I think I do it subtly, but..........

I am absolutely a sucker for those commercial dog pictures.

I used to be obsessed with spam. I did tons of research on it and learned all there is to know about it. Then I tried eating some on a sandwich and poof, my obsession was gone.

I think your vacuum obsession is cool! I'm fascinated with the attachments - the ones specially made for picking up pet hair, beater bars, upholstery attachments, one for stairs, others for blinds, other for dusting. I love the array! I really enjoy vac bags, too - some are a fabric and have odor control built in, others are designed to reduce allergies, there are actually some really neat accessories.

I was really into kitchen gadgets and utensils for a while. That one's a lot of fun, too!

I was obsessed with the penis, toddlers having their diapers changed and going to the bathroom between the ages 5 and 8. I was so obsessed with the penis, that I used to grab my younger cousin's penis who was a little under 2 years older than me. He said he was going to tell on me, and I didn't do that anymore after that.
