Do you talk in a monotonous voice tone?

I am curious, since I heard that many aspies do it. About me, I do it most of the times; sometimes my mother says I take a "rude" tone of voice, although actually I'm not aware that my tone become like that. Is talking in a monotonous way related to AS, or it's just a thing that changes from person to person? I'm not sure.

I used to do it all the time before I had speech therapy to improve my speaking.

Yeah, there needs to be an option for "I used to, but I don't anymore." I taught myself to use inflection and similar bits of non-verbal stuff, and now I often don't have to think about it. I still fall into "lecture mode" sometimes, but that isn't completely a monotone either; just a very precise, distinct way of speaking.

It's totally a skill that can be learned. If it matters to you, you probably can learn it.

My voice used to be quite monotonous, but not any more. That said, I think that the inflections I use don't necessarily match what I am saying or anything else. I think that sometimes confuses people.

Yep, another "used to, before speech therapy" - my speech doesn't necessarily match my emotions, but its not nearly as monotone as it used to be.

Sometimes I sound like I'm lecturing when I'm really involved in what I'm saying.
I did not have a speech delay,but I could remember whole songs and prayers(such as Apostle's Creed,Lord's Prayer,etc..),so I was "coached"at an early age.I do have problems with volume control and some people mistake that for anger,but I'm just into what I'm talking about.

Nobody has ever commented about my voice being a monotone; but they've said I'm monotonous! However, people have said I talk extremely fast and bombard people with words. They feel like they are being assaulted due to the machine-gun speed of the words.

I talk in monotone sometimes. As a teacher, I have tried to use more inflection in my speaking.

I have a monotone voice. Rather than changing my inflection to match my mood, I change volume (I talk very loudly when I am discussing my special interests or things that make me emotional, or so I am told).

I had no idea that a monotone voice could be corrected! I will have to do research to see if I can correct it myself. I don't want to go to speech therapy if I don't have to, though it could be beneficial to more than just my monotone - I also have a lot of trouble "getting the words out", if that makes sense to anyone.

I don't have a monotone voice. However, I pick up the voices of people around me without thinking about it. If I'm around southern accents, I have a southern accent. If I'm around Spanish accents, I have a Spanish accent. If I'm around monotone voices, I have a monotone voice. Maybe if I was on a deserted island with nothing to pick up on I would have a flat voice? I'm not sure. I do have volume issues, however.
My brother, who I'm very certain has AS, has a monotone voice until he's very emotional.

That's actually something I've never done. I actually have a projecting voice.

The only time I don't talk in a monotonous voice is when I'm reading out loud to my wife. For some reason, I try to use proper inflections. I think I overdo it, and then have to find some balance.

Anyway, I think my habit is to put more of an emphasis on pauses than inflections.
