I've recently been diagnosed as having Aspergers, it wasn't until my son was diagnosed with Dyspraxia that I began to question things. I believe his diagnosis is incorrect and it is more than likely a cross over with Aspergers. I haven't spoken to people regarding my diagnosis but need to share it with somebody. I learnt about Aspergers when I was studying for a post grad diploma in art and design education, little did I realise that teaching was possibly the worst career path for somebody like me. But it has helped me understand where a lot of the pupils I teach are coming from. This post is just to introduce myself in this community as there is very little support groups in my locality.

Welcome to Wrong Planet!

I've found that I'm great at teaching young kids--they haven't learned the non-verbal stuff that I have trouble with. But, I'm observant enough to see issues missed by other adults.

Thanks for the welcome. I was teaching primary without much problems, I agree that they don't seem to understand body language, so it's less of a problem.

From what I can gather you're pretty much alone on it, as it's up to yourself to fit in. Something I've been already attempting to do for a lifetime, the only difference now is that I won't be too hard on myself for problems that arise from deficits in my social skills.

In terms of the teaching aspect, I think I saw an Aspie math teacher somewhere in the school forums. Maybe look there?
