Okay, so I was Dx'd Asperger's about 3 years ago then last fall, with more extensive evaluation (an hour a day for 9 days), a psychiatrist changed it to mild classic autism for various reasons. A few months later I lost the insurance I'd had and went on Medicaid disability. In our state, there is only one provider group, Valley Mental Health, who takes all Medicaid cases due to a contract. Today I had my first appointment with the Dr. I go for PTSD and depression, but my autism affects everything, including my PTSD and depression. She will not acknowledge any Dx she did not personally give me. She will not evaluate me for an autism spectrum disorder, and claims the Dx is not important, and that I need to not focus on the Dx. I can't even refer to having autism without her stopping me. She literally doesn't want to hear it. It's not that she's saying I don't have it, she's saying it doesn't matter, and that she won't evaluate me for it (too time consuming). How can I work with her when she doesn't even want me mentioning my autism?! What do I do?! I can't go anywhere else because of my Medicaid, and I can't even have Valley assign me someone new because SHE would have to okay it! Heeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!! !

I don't know what to do, but this is farked up. At my psych place, the psych that you have has to OK your transfer to another psych, but that is just a formality, like they just have to sign something, and they always do, not like they have to personally approve of the transfer and think it's a good thing to do.
