I just remembered this but there have been many times when I'll be talking but in my head I'm thinking more than just what I'm talking and it suddenly all becomes to much and I just freeze for a second or two.

This also happens if I'm intensely focused and somebody asks me something, I'll look at them, I heard them, I know what they asked, but it takes me more than usual (4-10 seconds) to reply to whatever they asked (usually something very simple). I then go back to what I'm doing fairly easily but often forget the conversation took place until I'm later reminded.

Just wondering if this could be related to AS.

I call them brain glitches... because it's like when the backgrounds in video games aren't being processed right, or the game freezes or takes too long to load.

I have the same thing! When I'm usually out and about, I'm often alone and aloof, just doing my thing. When someone approaches me or speaks to me, I just freeze all of a sudden, not knowing what to say next. So I end up saying to them exactly what they have said to me ["how are you doing?" 'how are you doing?'] sooo awkward...
Then, each day, I plan my day. I sit at my kitchen table writing a mental and physical to-do list and my brain 'glitches' at that point. I get lost in my thoughts, sometimes for a couple hours, and that wastes a ton of time...

Indeed yes... Mine last 5-10 or so seconds when glitched out - also sometimes being totally unable to process things unless I get that information again, which I normally need a 2-3 pause. Even times when I blank out and appear to be in another world or daydreaming.

I'm referring more to the pauses than zoning out. And pauses because I'm out and about doing something are common, along with a lot of anxiety, so they're like panicked freezes so I don't count those. What I'm talking about is just a pause were you have to stop everything for a second to process things but you're in a calm environment.

I glitch out all the time, usually it's when there's a lot going on at once, I have to reboot my processes, which can take a while.

This is why I don't do live vocal commentaries on my Video game Let's Plays; that and my stuttering.

Yes, I do this. and I wondered if it was only me- but it's obviously not!
When I come to my own home, from visiting with my Mom, sometimes I will have to stand in my doorway for several seconds simply to remember WHY I came home in the first place- what I came over here to get or to do!
I will often "get lost in my thoughts" if I'm feeling too tired or too overloaded by stresses. I guess that's just a part of being "on the Spectrum".... :)

Yes, I sometimes get that.

I get more concerning brain glitches that cause physical glitches - sometimes I'll be walking along the street and there'll be a split second pause in my step, or when trying to get change in a shop my hands for a split second pause, it's like my brain momentarily forgets what it's doing and I have to force my brain to finish making my body do as it's supposed to - I'd definitely classify these as some sort of momentary glitch, I certainly hope it's related to the neurology of an autistic brain!

it's called a 'brain fart'. happens to everyone, even NTs.

I don't know about everyone else, but for me, it's more than just a momentary disfunction of brain power.
It's a total cease of function for thinking and oftentimes it's disorienting. I know what this "brain fart" you speak of is, and what I have goes way beyond that, on levels that are 10's, even 100's of times more severe than that. Not just a momentary lapse in thought or process that simply goes away, but rather a complete failure in capabilities, sometimes even for up to an hour.

Oh yes, this happens to me fairly regularly. Usually if my partner interrupts me in what I'm doing to ask something simple. I'll hear the question and I'll know it sounds simple but my thoughts go something like:

Person talking to me > it's a question > it's in English > I know that keyword > why don't I repeat it out load slowly and carefully to see what it's like and buy a bit of time > "Din - ner" > "Ah, dinner. You want to know what I want for dinner?"

By which point partner is teasing me for being slow and dopey and reminding me what the English language is all about (in an affectionate way).

Yup. But it happens more often to autistics, at least to me. Many things that are symptoms of neurological problems will happen to NTs sometimes; it's just that when they happen to the people with the diagnosable issue, they're stronger and pose a real problem and happen more often.

I actually find the "everyone experiences that" thing really frustrating. I mean, like in this case - My brain can glitch out so many times I can get lost trying to get from my bedroom to the kitchen. Not because I forget the way, but because I forget what I'm doing. The other day, I ended up wandering around the house because I couldn't remember why I was wandering around the house and was hoping I would see something that would prompt me to remember.

I know other people have these moments, but does it happen that often?

Yeah, it's frustrating. People don't understand that "NTs experience this too" doesn't mean the same thing as "Your experiences are the same as an NT's." It's like saying that because you're blind in the dark, you know what it's like to lose your vision. The difference in degree changes things a lot.

I've read about brain farts and it's doing something stupid or temporarily forgetting something and it's caused by the brain switching to a more relaxed state when doing repetitive tasts. It's a bit more complicated than that but it can cause simple errors (knitting wrong, to forgetting what you were doing or how to do something) and usually causes you to do something stupid (as described by most dictionaries).

My brain freezes are literal freezes of the whole body. Like I just have to stop everything completely and it feels more like slow processing than anything. Kind of like lag but to the extent that it makes me freeze, so as you said it's more severe, not sure it can last up to an hour though... Most it's lasted has been maybe 30 seconds.
