i've seen nts pacing back and forth, and i've seen them waving a pen held between two fingers, but do they do it for hours, like i do at work, and do they flip a sock/handkerchief/their fingers the way i do every day?
how many people here fap their fingers, anyway, and how many have seen nts do it? i have to do it because it helps me to concentrate, and i find it very soothing.

I stim a lot, and i have seen a lot of nts stimming, the difference is how often the aspies do it.
I stim all day, while they only stim in very stressed situations.

I think it depends on how a person does these sorts of ''stims''. I was on floating around on Youtube yesterday and watched a clip of 3 young men talking about something, and they were just lounging about in a living-room, and I'm assuming they were NTs. One was in an armchair what kind of rocks back and forth, and the boy sitting in it was continuously rocking the chair backwards and forwards throughout the whole video (the video lasted about 15 minutes or so).

I've seen NTs pace too, especially kids. When we went to stay at a friend's, they had two sons (one was aged 11 and the other one was aged 15). And when we were first there, the 15-year-old was pacing up and down in the kitchen, talking to us about what exams he was taking. He did it for ages, and I know he doesn't have AS or ADHD or anything.

In these two experiences, there was something in the way they repetitively moved was what made me know that they are not Autistic. I think it just looks controlled. NTs don't just sit stock still forever, they will move their arms and legs to a certain extent, but what could look similar to how an Autistic person stims. I can't explain it really so sorry if I don't sound clear enough.

They do when they are nervous or anxious. I have never seen an NT flap their fingers. I don't flap my fingers often.

Yes, NTs do that, too. My best friend, for example, does, and she's an NT, although she has depression.

Yes, NTs do that too. But they don't do it all the time. Me, I do it all the time. I stim relentlessly.

I my class, some NT people used to bounce their leg from time to time. But just a quick look would have sufficed to spot the autistic & ADHD person in there (me, that is)... I was on a non-stop stimming quest.

Probably 75% Aspie, 25% NT... and 100% ADHD :)

Aspie-quiz results:
Aspie score: 138 of 200 / NT score: 78 of 200 => Very likely an Aspie.

i flap my fingers sometimes...ive noticed a lot of times i tend to run the edge of my keyboard keys against the skin under my fingernails for hours on end. when im stressed i also have a strange obsession with playing with those round fabric chunks that form on socks, matresses, blankets, ect, sometimes going so far as to 'save the really good ones'. rolling them around my fingers is soothing.
