When I get worried about something, I get hyper obsessive and sometimes go for days without sleeping and can think of nothing else. I always thought OCD itself was about rituals and stuff, which is not me; I am slightly disorganized. But I am obsessive about worries, rational and not -- to an extreme. I have heard the word "neurotic" used to describe me.

Is this normal for those on the spectrum or with Asperger Syndrome?

OCD it sounds like. But it's also common in AS, worrying obsessively and OCD is common in it so it's not surprising when professionals say it's part of autism.

OCD can also be with thinking and I never had stereotypical OCD. Maybe with cleaning and washing hands but I got over it. But I liked having a clean house and liked things put away so it can't be OCD and the other part of me thinks it was because it caused me distress. Couldn't relax unless it was cleaned up. It drove me crazy if something was out of place or not picked up or if something needed to be cleaned. But I also liked cleaning and it relaxed me. But mine has always been with the thoughts.

I'd say it's normal on the spectrum. On my report, it did say that OCD was a symptom rather than something else to be diagnosed, well, my psychologist said that anyway, apparently the fact that I always checked my work was a sign, I thought it was a good thing! XD

You are definitely obsessive but the compulsive part is unclear. Do you do anything to try to calm yourself? The compulsive part is what is supposed to ease the obsession. Obsessiveness is common in Asperger's but not to the extent that you describe.

I worry obsessively about things. Not about everything, just mainly stuff that makes me think I might lose respect from other people, like worrying about being blamed for something I didn't do and everyone believes the accuser then I get hated.

It's happened before to me.

It depends. Like recently there was this picture on my iphone that I thought caused bad luck, so I changed it. I don't know if that is "calming" oneself. I'm very superstitious about weird stuff. I blame specific things that go wrong in my life on objects or my past behaviors. It's more I just obsess and obsess and try to find a solution to whatever it is, and then one moment (or sometimes gradually) the obsessiveness just dies.

Definitely typical for people on the spectrum...I do this quite a lot, and some others on the spectrum that I know do this too.

This misdiagnosis caused me significant stress, which lessened upon finding out the truth about myself from my current and past long-term therapists - that I am an anxious and highly sensitive person but do not have an autism spectrum disorder.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

I have intrusive thoughts and go over and over in my head about the various possibilities and "what-ifs".
I bite my nails when I do this. Observing me you would probably think that I am a huge mess.

Right now, my obsessive thought process is whether I have AS, would I get diagnosed or will the doctor not believe me...and so on..
