Aspie Lexicography!!

Hi!!

I would like to compile a list of social defintions as an aspie learning aid. it would be simple phrases that many aspies may not know the meaning of for lack of direct experience, for example:

"Feeling comfortable in one's own skin"

1 - the ability to comfortably move one's body according to their personality.
2 - the presence of discernible idiosyncratic aspects to a person's movement and posture.

or

"!"

1 - happiness
2 - alarm
3 - sarcasm

Funny or serious, I will take them all.

Please send any you think might need a defintion to [email protected] or post your own here on this thread.

I figure when I get 10000 or so it might be suitable for publication so the NTs might not take their social rules for granted and some aspies can get some much needed reference material. . . or maybe it will just end up a cool thread.

Thank you for all submissions.

There are similar things, and it really won't help anyone. As for them taking this for granted? They don't. They think that if they see themselves as "gifted" in that area that they are just better prepared, etc... The are fooling themselves, but they don't care about stuff they don't know they have lost. You can't convince them of it.

I have TRIED! I have PROVEN them wrong! STILL, they act like I am nuts. I was called arogant and racist because of how I held my arms. I pointed out someone NOBODY dared call arogant, etc... And mentioned that HE obviously was. When everyone gasped, and he said *****WHAT*****? I asked him why he held his arms that way. He said just to rest them. The SAME thing I and EVERYONE polled said. Yet that wasn't enough!

How could a mere book do any more?

well first of all . . . 'mere' books have been known to do a lot of things. i think your post clearly shows the need for more clarification on these matters.

if your group had the dictionary and looked up 'arm holding' (i'm going to assume across chest) everyone would have seen that:

arm holding across chest (posture):

var 1 high and tense
- obstinate and clueless; defensive; irritated

var 2 low and relaxed
- at rest; state of relaxation

I stand corrected! YEP, you're right! They studied such dreck and became obstinate! You just want to encourage that.

the dictionary would not comment on the individual's state of being per se but what their corporeal form was communicating to an observer regardless of the subject's intentions. this is called body language. science doesn't care if you are aware of what you are doing. it is the message that is being received that is important.

one of the highest paid professions in our society involves the study of this language, along with linguistic variations in tone and inflection to convey the proper emotional message to their audience. this profession is called acting. it may seem a little paradoxical steve but you can act like yourself. god help me, i know its hard but you have to start somewhere.
