Does this happen to anyone else? My ability to follow conversations and not be awkward picks up if I have a few cups of coffee or a Monster. I'm also less likely to have timing issues and say dumb stuff.

Yes and no. I think it just seems like I'm better at socializing when I have caffeine. I'm probably not really any better, I just feel more positive about it. Although this doesn't always work. It's almost like I have a small buzz going and I'm more willing to forgive myself for being awkward. Does that make sense?

I really don't think caffeine makes a difference, because it really doesn't really do anything... though chocolate does really help me when taking quizzes. Otherwise, I don't notice a difference. But... if there's a ton of sugar, it will make me hyper, but I think this is with everyone. :-)

I'm really a tea-drinker and I don't like the negative effects of caffeine like hand tremors and anxiety. I know black tea has caffeine too but I find it doesn't wake me up much at all, last night I was yawning my face off even after drinking three extra-large cups. I don't get the caffeine and energy-drink craze, do other people really have so little free time they have to deprive themselves of sleep? They even have this caffeinated chocolate bar out, ridiculous. I used to have horrible insomnia where I'd be exhausted but unable to sleep at all, so every night I actually sleep is a blessing. Although I have become a real night owl recently, although I try not to stay up later than 1:30 am and usually wake around 9 or 10 in the morning.

Interesting.

I have caffeine everyday, and I am just as autistic with or without it.

Caffeine makes me shaky and unable to sit still even when I want to. That makes me anxious which negates any positive effects it may or may not have on me.

Caffeine is the best. It makes me, me, just better.

Don't think so. I have the disorganizedness of ADHD, but I think it's more just my NVLD that causes it. However, when I tried Ritalin, it didn't like, work as intended at all. I figured it'd be like caffeine but better/smoother, but it like, blocked my thoughts too much and actually made my reaction times worse. I was probably more "NT" on it, but not in a good way. Much more impulsive.

No, caffeine doesn't touch me. I can drink a whole bottle of coke with caffeine in, and it doesn't change me at all. It doesn't even affect my sleep.

Caffeine makes me more manic and less depressive, meaning I am usually in a better mood after consuming it. However, I never noticed that it makes me more normal or affects my social skills except that I am generally more willing to engage in social chitchat when I am manic.

Caffeine makes me more perceptive of my environment and removes some of the timing issues that make my interactions with others awkward because it enhances my ability to perceive things like nonverbal visual cues. Thus, it makes me more like an NT. Because it helps to cut down the ASD/NVLD wall that blocks me off from other people (I think of my ASD as like a cloud or fog hovering around me), it also makes me less anxious, not more.

For the other poster who has NVLD, do you think the caffeine helps with that?
