Went and visited a friend the other day. He is a school teacher in Ohio. What I found out was a bit of a shock to me but not really. My friend informed me that they had a girl who was diagnosed with AS. According to him when the girl first started school she was a bit of a bully. They managed to get her "fully integrated" on a social level. She actually is a part of the herd now.............

Am I jealous about that........down deep, in a way, yeah......actually maybe jealous is not the right word. Angry about the fact that they have all these services for the kids but for all us adults it sort of like oh hey sorry about your luck but we don't really give a s**t because you are old now. I think the society that we live in each owes us a little something.

Yeah its kinda messed up but whenever people think "autism" they think "kids". Kids are cute and innocent. While autistic adults are probably seen as "freaks and psychos". That's part of it. Otherwise, its probably cause kids need go to school and there's a significant responsibility. But not enough thought is put into to supporting adults. Cause the thing is, autism does not go away, we dont just suddenly heal ourselves once we turn 18 or 21. Cause once the services are lost, its hard to keep the progress going.

I think that as an adult that was not diagnosed until he was 26 I should get some reparation payments.

The most I was offered after my diagnosis was counseling.

I am in my mid-fifties, and I think the idea of "Reparations" for having AS/HFA is just plain STUPID!

Here in the UK it is like the government forgets about you once you are eighteen. This is wrong because adults face the same difficulties each day as children do.

There are way too many resources for kids compared to adults.

However Im not sure if you are familiar with how resources work but they say that when a child is diagnosed at age 12 its a bit too late for them to benefit from therapy because its extremely harder to change their behaviour.
Can you imagine if instead of daling with kids that have been acting a certain way 12 years they dealt with people that have been doing it: twice/ three times/ 4 times as much?
The result would be that they are too used to acting a certain way and the success rate would be extremely low.

As a matter of fact theres a guy my age that comes to therapy with me and the therapist says that as a child therapy was extremely more effective for him than when he reached 20, imagine 30/40...
