It has been suggested that I wear them. I currently wear earplugs. Someone on here told me they can cause problems after a while.

No, I don't. I often wear earphones/headphones to play my own music and drown out other sound (it's better because I have control of the sound in my earphones), and sometimes use earplugs when I don't want to be listening to music.

I have earplugs that I take everywhere if I need them. I am thinking of getting a cheaper Ipod (now that the price has gone down for several versions) so that I can have a bit of music. The earplugs keep out sound but not completely, but if I have my computer and my earphones with music, that can really help calm me down.

I also do the earplug thing. There's one restaurant my parents like to eat at. It's very noisy there with their music, so I put in earplugs or stuff my ears with pieces of the napkins.

I have done that for... nearly 10 years now.

It works well.

I have never used earplugs. (Is that a weird thing?) I bet it would really good for my hearing. ^^

Earphones. With or without music coming through them.

I use earplugs. They sometimes itch, but that's why I don't always wear them. I need something small enough to carry in my kindle's bag, ear defenders tend to be too large.

I only wear headphones. The noise-cancelling kind. They are kind of annoying at times, though.

No, but I find it best to just avoid the noises that bother me, which is to say avoid people as much as possible.

If I have to go out and be around people, I'll just listen to a MP3 player; that seems to work.

(It's...bliss walking through a shopping center when there's absolutely no one there.)

I wear the wax earplugs. My ears are really small, though, so I tear them in half. I;m starting to think, though, that if I try to slowly introduce myself to those environments, it might be make it better?
Anyway, I've tried the airplane things and I think the wax is much better. Just be careful that you don't get stressed really quickly and want to jam them tighter into your ears. I wish I could just control my volume like on my computer...

i got earplugs with me at all times too, but to prevent getting dependant on them, i only wear hem when it's absolutely needed, if i were to wear them al the time, i would get used to the lowered volume, and the plugs lose their effect...

i do however listen to music almost all the time when i'm not sleeping, i cant stand what NT's call 'silence', as fridges, clocks, central heating, lighting... all make a lot of noise, whihc is easily overtuned by even the slightest music...

I had a pair as a kid that were from my father's shop... at the time I thought of them as a toy and didn't quite understand why it was so comfortable drowning out sounds. I wore them all the time when playing by myself. Years later after finding this place and undoing some of my mental perceptions that I've given myself in my attempts to become tougher as I grew up, I tried out wearing headphones or ear plugs (and sunglasses too actually) while at the grocery store and now for the first time since I was a kid I am able to go to a store, do an hour and a half worth of shopping, and as long as I don't get caught in a traffic jam where too many people are dependent on me to move without moving themselves then I can walk out with a smile, still feeling calm... if anything I end up walking out happy and feeling accomplished for not freaking out!

so ear defenders: not really any more... but sound reduction of other methods: I am with the rest of the thread and swear by it.
