Do you prefer it when people just tell you what to do directly?

For example: If one wants you to sit down...
1) Would you like to sit down?
2) Sit down please
Which one do you prefer, the one where you are treated like a "robot" (i.e. being given direct orders) or the one with a rhetorical question.

Do any of you find it confusing when one asks a question, whether one expects a reply or not?

I want to be treated like a robot. I want eberryone to pretend play that I am the Mars rover roving Mars. They can give me clear direct instructions of what they want me to do. The rest of the time, they can leave me alone. When I was little, my mother treated me like a robot. That is why I am very high-functioning today.

I want to be treated like the sweet, sensitive person that I am. I don't wish to be treated like a robot. Maybe I would if I had a thicker skin.

No, because I'm not a robot, I'm a human being, with feelings and stuff.

All anyone would ever do to a robot is order it around and change it's batteries. Being treated like a robot would mean being treated like a servant, without any companionship or even respect.

I used to be a soccer referee. The way I went about the mechanics of running up and down the field, and checking player's equipment and the such was robotic at it's best. However, there is the human element of being able to read the play and knowing what kind of challenges the players were accepting and not accepting. So I had to find hte balance between being a robot and human. So very confusing.

I would treat a robot with love and respect. I love robots. I want to go to Mars to rescue the Mars rovers stuck there, or at least to build little igloos for them to shelter in.

Perhaps not with something so simple as sitting.

But with bigger stuff like relationships and stuff. Yeah. I can't read between the lines when you want me to and I try to read between the lines when there's nothing between them. If people would just tell me what they actually thought and wanted out of me it would be better.

No, even if I were a robot.

Probably one of the saddest songs written (that points out the problems of being an object to others):

yes, not with little stuff. with little stuff, i think that people have to be secure enough to not feel challenged by someone who does not conform to social norms.

i recently sat in the 'direct care worker' section at an all-staff meeting, rather than on the administration side. my unit director came up to me before the meeting and stated 'sitting in the rough part of town huh?' about halfway through the meeting, i realized that he was requesting for me to sit where i was 'supposed to sit,' though not directly saying it. as time goes on, i must admit, he is warming up to my responses as being 'different' rather than defiant, so its all working out.

that said, i would like to be treated as someone who responds in an authentic and well-meaning way, rather than have people read 'human instinct' into every little thing.

If they actually care if I sit down, yes, I'd rather they say the latter. Doesn't mean I would do it, but if I didn't at least I'd be choosing to be rude.

I almost always have people say you can take a seat and it bugs me I don't like that and feel that way some times.
