I am starting this log because I as well as others have trouble keeping good hygiene. I personally am trying to worktowards beter hygiene. My dental, showering, and laundry habits are s**t. I have decided to take a slow approach to this. I actually have gone as long as months before brushing or showering...and laundry you don't want to know. The funny thing with me is that I don;t hate showering or brushing my teeth im just too lazy to ''start it''. Once I start it though, i do it CORRECT. I shower with the best soaps, loofah, and take 1 hr scrubbing every part multiple times. I brush my teeth with a battery pro whitening toothbrush and ultrabrite toothpaste for whitening and brus RIGHT. I do laundry very well too except I always make my clothes wrinkled and I never dry them properly even with a dryer lol.

So, like I said, I'm going to take this slow. I already started this about a month ago. I ahve been consistently brushing my teeth, so now it's time to add in daily showers. I showered last 2 days ago i believe.

Here is Today's entry...
Woke up at 9am(which is very good for me!)
brushed my teeth yay
showered!

just did laundry im on a roll lol doing 2 loads...even washing my sheets and comforter that havent been washed in a decade rofl(jk)
also reorganized the laundry cabinet! lol since i have an aspie tendency to wear the same clothes everyday, I actually had clothes sitting in my room that were washed a long time ago but never worn so te chnically they were clean but i decided to wash them anyway

Making things you struggle to initiate part of a weekly or daily routine is a great way of ensuring you do them. Good luck :)

Good for you! Dental is especially important. Not flossing on a regular basis can lead to periodontal disease.

idont plan o nflossing just brushing well once per day..which is fine for me. My teeth stay smooth all day. my goals are to shower once per day, brush once epr day, and to do laundry once per week(although im not at this stage currently).

I think society's norms for hygiene are a bit excessive. However I would like to get my hair washed more often, like maybe every other day. If I can get myself to do it consistently I can start doing CO washing (conditioner only). The way I do it now I wash it so infrequently it's dirty so I can't do that.

part of the reason im doing this is so i can convince myself that ican live independently eventually. It's not so much the hygiene that is important as it is that i am taking care of myself.

to the other poster who said society's norms are excessive, yeah i think brushing your teeth 2x per day is a little excessive. Once is fine for me. I wont floss or mouthwash either. Showering i think as long as you do it twice per week you're good lol.

Took a shower and brushed my teeth.

Hopefully having a thread to bump will keep me on a regular schedule.

Once you get to about 25 you'll start regretting not flossing. I never thought it was necessary until suddenly I started getting cavities between my teeth. I brush every day, always have, but almost never floss. All it took was one sensory nightmare trip to the dentist while he drilled and filed and filled a couple of cavities (I'm feeling a little nauseous just thinking about the sound and the vibrating scratching feeling from the drill) and now I try to floss at least a couple times per week.

My personal guidelines for hygiene is that I never want to be unpleasant to be around. If my breath smells, it's unpleasant, so I always brush my teeth in the morning even though I cringe from the scratchy sound and feeling every time. If I stink, it's unpleasant, so I shower once per day. If I don't wash my hair for too long it gets greasy and unpleasant to look at, so I wash it about twice per week. (It's really unnecessary to do it more often and actually it can damage your hair pretty badly if you do it too much.) I wear the same clothes many times before washing, but I always check to make sure they don't stink, otherwise into the washing machine they go.

So basically, the more you try to keep good hygiene, the more pleasant you will be around, and the healthier you will feel overall. Congrats on taking the step to get started on this, and getting the community to support you is a great motivator. Keep at it, and good luck!
