Doesn't work.. Those theories have all been debunked. Unfortunately psychoanalysis is still alive in France and i'ts hurting people with autism. We made a documentary about it.
I thought that a lot of Sigmund Freud's theories have been debunked. About France, I know that there's more than Lacanian psychoanalysis, which is what I think is being talked about. There's several fields besides that one, although I don't know much about any of it.
It makes sense that it wouldn't work on autism, because that's a neurological problem. I did read in our textbook I think, that psychoanalysis can work for things like mild depression. We were taught that Freud focused too heavily on sexuality, and that modern psychoanalysts also focus on other things.
All the same, there are some crazy ideas there. The idea of reinforcers towards behavior makes more sense to me. Although I disagree with the idea of B.F Skinner that they're the be all, end all of how someone acts.
What is the state of psychology now?
