Are people with Autism more inclined to have different views towards babies than NTs?

I personally cannot stand babies. Even looking at them makes me feel sick, but I think that is because I have OCD issues about the contents of their nappies.....let's just say I could NEVER change a nappy (known as a diaper in the US); I would run away screaming. Also they scream/cry, which I cannot cope with due to hypersensitivity.

Maybe so. I personally hate babies and children...and people in general.

I don't mind little ones (other than the germ phobia of OCD), as they're socially on my level and I don't see them as a threat (bullying by teenagers probably did this latter thingy).

I hate babies. More than anything else it's the noise. Baby crying=worst noise ever, it HURTS. I also don't get the "awww isn't he/she cute?". No - he/she looks like an ugly wrinkled potato.

Well I absolutely adore them! As in to the point I feel empty when I have to put one down, I feel jealous of other women out with babies and their unborn bumps. I would love to feel what it's like to be pregnant more than anything and it wouldn't be the first time I'd pretended I was. I also have four reborn dolls and love drawing babies to me there is nothing more beautiful than a new born baby.

I made one woman pretty upset one day when I was helping her take videos she had taken of her grandbaby and burn them to a DVD she could watch on her tv. My comment was "Babies make boring videos. They don't do anything but lay there and make noises. There's hardly anything more boring. It would be far more interesting if he was on skis in the video going down a hill and ran into a tree."

I would have said a similar thing.

I don't think so, SteelMaiden.

While I myself don't care that much about human infants (but I do like kittens, chicklets, lambs, etc.), I've also encountered people who are not autistic say that they don't care for little kids and don't know what to do with a baby.

Perhaps the difference is that non-autistics are often a bit more tactful and a bit less blunt about expressing it when in the presence of babies (and their parents).

Anyway, this topic has popped up a couple times before on WP, and there seems to be a bit of a 50/50 or maybe 40/60 divide going on among posters. I think the social skills factor dose contribute to this.

People with AS are much less likely to have children.

The reasons are vast but often depressing.

In fact there is a reported inverse IQ/Kids relationship which is also rather depressing.

What we need is a higher ratio of smart people to morons and that won't happen if all the smart people decide not to breed...

I actually have not spent much time near babies that much recently and mostly maybe seeing the neighbors with a baby and not interacting much.

I really don't like being around babies. I can't stand the crying. A friend has a 3 month old, and every time I come over, he's trying to get me to look at the baby and hold it and it makes me very uncomfortable.

The last time I was over, the baby was screaming and he handed it to me so he could make a bottle. It felt like the screaming was liquifying my brain! It almost got to the point that I would have lain him down and go outside just to get away from the noise.

Kids younger than about 7 just make me really uncomfortable.

I have always liked babies and found them cute. I never fussed over them like other people do. They seem to gawk over them and have a long attention span for them while I would see them and then be done and do my own thing. But when I had my own, it was very different because I was always holding him and liked looking at him. I fussed over my own nephew too when my brother had him because he was my nephew because I wanted to hold him and take care of him too and it upset my son so I had to hold him too so he wouldn't be too jealous. But whenever others (usually husband's family and people he knows) would fuss over mine and would be holding him, I would walk away and do my own thing letting them deal with him. I figured if they get tired of him, they will hand him back to me. My mom gave me some criticism over this but what am I supposed to do? Not let others hold my baby and play with him? If that is what other mom's are like, I guess I'm different. But at least he got to socialize and watch them do it. That is what babies need anyway. Very important for their development.

I don't like babies, never wanted one, and want nothing to do with other people's babies.

Don't get why anyone would spend $200,000+inflation to put up with diapers, crying, whining, work/time investment, have all the mess and headaches of rasing a child I'd rather spend it on something I like, maybe cars, tools, boat or a cottage come to mind. Besides I like my truck!

So yes I hate babies, gross, weird annoying people. If I want to play with a kid I will babysit someone elses.
