I have a lot of difficulty working with numbers, especially with abstract symbols (as in algebra). Geometry is a bit easier due to the visual aspect. I work well with words, with pictures, with describing experiences. I don't know why numbers give me such a difficult time. I get a few layers into it and I lose track of what I'm doing. It takes an inordinate amount of effort to get anything involving numbers to process as fast and straightforward as everything else.

I don't think I would be able to do arithmetic or algebra without visualizing the quantities and their relationships to each other. Maybe you could try different techniques to visualize algebra. If you are losing track of steps you might try mnemonic techniques to help you keep track.
