I was awake till 4am this morning! I seem to be getting worse, my special interest is also much stronger at night than through the day and I can't deny myself the opertunity to look things up and massively over think things, at night my interests are so much more alive and then during the day they're quite faint and I don't have that much interest in them.
This is increasingly frustrating because once the Christmas holidays are over I have to get up early and will have no time to use on my interest.
Anyone else have this problem? And if so how do you fix it?

I'm a nocturnal kind of person myself. When everyone is asleep and it's quiet outside, I can finally relax and focus my attention on the things I like. No distractions and no interlopers.

And yes, time passes by quickly sometimes. There was at least one case when I stayed up all night, just doing stuff - it was fun :)

Everything is closed, though--no chance to, for example, eat out.

But otherwise, fun. If you can (you're 16 and probably still in school, so maybe you can't), just adjust your schedule to be more nocturnal. Otherwise, you might have to rely on something like melatonin to help your body adjust to a more diurnal schedule.

I am also a night person, but I give that up to function in society.

I'm nocturnal but I'm convinced that it's not related to my AS. I just like the idea of the night life. That and I can't sleep most of the time at night due to fear and nightmares (not a good thing but I can't do anything about it).

That concerns me. If you don't mind me asking, why do you have nightmares and are you sure you can't do anything about it?

This, exactly. I'm at my most relaxed--and most productive--at night. I'd be perfectly happy if I had a job that let me work from home from like 6pm - 2am.

Also, I periodically go through periods of a few days where my sleep cycle gets completely messed up and I can't sleep. After a few days like that, my sleep cycle seems to reset.

Cause is unknown although PTS could be a contributor (6 break ins within about 6 months), the nightmares practically never happen in the day though, and they come and go. Some weeks are worse than others.

I'm nocturnal too. On a typical day I go to bed between 4 and 7 AM and sleep until 4 to 6 PM. I'm able to get lost in my imaginary world and indulge in my special interests more easily at night because it's quiet and there's no one else around.

I have this problem too!! It's like my body's natural clock wants me to go to bed at 3 and wake up at 11 lol. Unfortunately the rest of the world doesn't operate around my schedule :(. It's darn near impossible for me to go to bed at 10pm, which is when I should be going to bed normally for school/work. I just don't get tired that early! Even when I'm in a routine and go to bed at 10 every night for months, I'm almost never tired when I do and often have trouble going to sleep.

Sometimes I wish I could be a morning person, just because their schedule syncs up so well with everything else!

I too, have primarily a nocturnal sleep pattern.

Like already mentioned from a few of you....I enjoy the peacefulness, the quiet of night, nice & tranquil. I also really enjoy watching and experiencing the early morning hours around sunrise, witnessing everything come alive for the day. There's just so much stimulus during the day it feels draining, even if I am somewhere quiet, the atmosphere or the air around me feels very "busy" & active.

I've been wondering if a lot of those with AS prefer night time, or find themselves falling into a nocturnal sleep pattern. I've been this way since a kid, always enjoying and being more at ease at night. Every so often my sleep pattern becomes really messed up & erratic, from insomnia to too much sleep. Particularly during the winter, when the amount of daylight is relatively short, I find myself waking up just before sunset and going to sleep just before sunrise. When more sunlight during the days of summer come around my sleep pattern somewhat starts to switch back to "normal". But I inevitably end up falling back into my ol' habit of being up all night......I have noticed, when I go camping for at least a couple days I naturally wake up as soon as the sun comes up, now that is only if I wasn't up all night gazing at the stars :) .

I know I could benefit from more sunlight exposure upon me skin....Sunlight (in moderation of course  ) is good for the body (and in my opinion the mind & soul as well). I really do enjoy the feeling of warm blissful sunshine, just don't get enough of it.

Wouldn't that be a diurnal sleep pattern?

I don't sleep till 10-11 am.

I work at night so it's ok.

Plus where I live there are "almost" all night restaurants. (Not just Mcdonalds)

I seem to be most awake in the late evening, when I should be getting sleepy. I'm most likely to get my paint brushes out, when I've got my jammies on. I need to be up each morning to see my daughter to school, so I need to be in bed by about 11pm. But, my natural rhythm would have me getting up mid morning and going to bed some time after midnight.

I believe it may be the seclusion and the claustrophilic effects of staying up later on the computer that encourage me to stay up all night. It's just so comfortable and warm, and alone.
