I noticed in myself that when I'm scared I will cover my eyes and ears. Ex:when i'm at the docter and I'm going to get a shot. When theres physical pain. I guess I find it less scary and overwhelming if I can't see what they are doing or hear what they are doing.

It calms me down and some how it reminds me of what they do to animals. Cover there head to calm them down when they capture them in the wild and so on.

Does anyone else do this or something along those lines for the same reason?

Cover the head to calm them down? I always thought they covered the head so they would be less dangerous. A horse is less likely to buck, etc... if it can't see because it may hurt ITSELF.

Unfortunately, NO, when I am left with a likely death scenario, I TRY to keep moving. Something in me says STAY PUT like a deer in the headlights. OBVIOUSLY, it is a BAD idea to stand still with a car coming at you.

I shout my head off (well, I'm supposed to scream, but instead I shout in a very masculine tone?!) and RUN as fast as possible to a place of safety.

Alot of female's do it in the movie's along with throwing themself into you, screaming like a mad man, and my fav the noise before the storm one.... It's normal reaction - some guy's do it some girls don't depend's how it effect's them... It's destraction techniques although you sat they waiting to what happens on the one with the noise before the storm... Work's with anxiety too destraction techniques..

But you want to look into the anxiety thing or you get alot of strange look's with the eye and ear covering... taping on the back of your hand , neck and other places are used with it... loads of others...

I cover my ears but not my eyes. Typically I cover my ears and my mouth freezes open and my whole body freezes as every muscle tenses. Sometime I inhale strange croaky noises with my vocal chords like an lawn mower engine when I am really scared. Especially if I feel threatened in the dark.
Does anyone else feel the same way when they are scared?

When I am frustrated or angry and I need to calm down I wear a sleeping mask and sound-blocking ear muffs (like the ones someone would wear at a shooting range) and I sit in the closet.

I call it my sensory overload recovery time.

I curl up in a ball and scream when I'm really scared.

I probably make the same noise when in extreme sudden pain. With my recent leg injury and the stupidity of ones that are supposed to care, I have been doing it a lot. I basically just get a quick breath with my vocal chords engaged.

I do.

Hale Bopp - I found it helps me to have some "white noise" (i.e. a humidifier) running when I go to sleep because then I am not bothered by little annoying sounds. Just a suggestion.

If I feel stressed out because of things like arguments, work and breaking routines, I lock myself in my room, switch the lights off and put my headphones into my ears. I play (not too loudly, but at a level so that I feel in my own world - the house is usually very quiet anyway) my favourite music (which is very overstimulating) on my MP3 player. If I feel like I'm overstimulated (loud, noisy places), I usually go and find a toilet or a claustrophobic, hidden, quiet space and sit on the floor. I close my eyes and hug my knees. I sometimes stuff tissue into my ears and put my hands over my eyes to block my senses as much as I can.
