Is it weird that I have normal eye contact sometimes?

If I get into talking with someone my eye contact automatically becomes normal. Someone else told me this so I know it's not my imagination. If I focus on it, it gets worse.

No. It's not "weird". It's what's normal for you, even though it might not be normal for anyone else.

Some people I can look in the eye and talk at and it feels natural. Its kind of rare though.

That's reminds me. I can make eye contact with my friend very, very well.

My eye contact is very normal most of the time, and very abnormal part of the time, depending on my feelings and what I'm focusing on.

I know that.
Keeping eye contact with close relatives and a close friend is possible, but if I become aware that I have eye contact, it starts to become more difficult, maybe because then I start to try hard to keep the achievement?

I have "Normal" eye contact with people who I'm afraid of or do not trust. And those that I try to fake NT body language for.

I have trouble making eye contact with family and close friends...strangers...no problem I stare intensely at them.

I have gotten fairly good at making eye contact with people I like and trust very well during conversations since my diagnosis, not that there are a lot of people like, that mind you. It's strangers or people I find intimidating or not trustworthy that's the problem.

I've trained myself to try to do it most of the time. It's much easier, even natural, with people I know and trust, or when I'm engaged in the topic of conversation. Where it becomes difficult is with people I don't know well, or when people want to make small talk. On a good day, I can keep up the eye contact thing, although I often have to remind myself to do it.
But some people also have this really piercing gaze which I particularly associate with extraverted people. I generally have to look away from such people - it's like having a searchlight shining in my face.

I have the same.
It has to do with "focusing" and stuff I guess.

At some point, I can look at people and "shut off" my vision - I look but don't see. I guess I am looking at my own thoughts, particularly if I am the one talking. Though, when I get going I am usually talking to the wall, the ceiling, the table, the floor,my drink ... I talk around the person I am talking to . Eye contact is very difficult for me.

I have normal eye contact. Even as a child, as young as 2, I had normal eye contact. I say that because not only I remember looking into people's eyes as a young child, I can also remember all of my teacher's faces what I had at preschool onwards, so I must have made eye contact if I can still remember their faces now, years later.

It doesn't mean much. You can have Aspergers and have normal eye contact. When I was a child, my father hit me every time I didn't have good eye contact, as well as when I stared, so it pretty much built the correct habits. Maybe it was similar for you.

Yeah, I have varing degrees of eye contact. For acquaintances and strangers, I can't even look at them anywhere so eye contact is often on the floor or another point of interest. When gradually knowing people better, eye contact appears to drift and contact is there for short bursts.

Talking is often difficult as I either give direct answers with long pauses, stutters often slow and often forget what it was I was about to say. But the very mention of a special interest though can get me rather chatty though... 8O
