Is this an aspie thing? I often eat food (beef stew, green beans, raviolis, etc) right out of the can without heating it up.

Do you have an option? The green beans I wouldn't mind, and maybe not even the ravioli, but the beef stew I would want to be at least warm. When I was at college and none of us had pots we would just strip off the labels and pop the open can on the burner and hope for the best.

eta: open cans - because otherwise you'd have a beef-stew-bomb

Hello.

I sometimes do it if the can is shallow enough, typically those small tuna cans. I do it so that I won't have to worry about washing a plate or something afterwards. I know some people think it's a bad manner to eat directly from a can, but I don't care about such things.

I don't think it has anything to do with Aspergers (in my opinion).

I hope I will not see those annoyed responses to those questions.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I doubt it's an aspie thing. Maybe aspies are more likely to do it because they are more likely to eat alone and are less bound by social norms but I think most guys do it at some point in their lives

I often call the toilet "the can."

It made for an interesting mental image when I read your post.

Anyway, I rarely eat canned food.

I dont know if it is an aspie thing. I do it at times, but only with food that you would eat cold anyway eg tinned peaches, pears etc. It is to save me from having to wash a dish afterwards:-)

If you have an empty tuna can (for example) you can make a fire and crack an egg into the can then put tin foil over it and stick in the fire to cook it! :D

i used to eat all my food straight from the can. now unless i am in a big hurry, i will dump the contents into a micro dish, add oatmeal, and make a meal out of it.

I only do it occasionally. I keep a can opener (army style) on my keychain for this reason. Never know when you're hungry and need to eat. I do this the most with like, canned fish and meats that you'll likely eat cold anyway. Like if I go to the Asian market, I'll get canned fake duck made of wheat gluten, drain the water out in the parking lot, go back in and get some hot sauce from there or from a restaurant (for free, just a few squirts) and eat it with a spork.

I try to avoid it whenever possible. I hate eating out of the can; it makes the food taste metallic.

If you listened to my family they'd say it's one of my autistic behaviors, but what's the sense in dirtying a dish that will only hold something for 2 minutes?

I eat a lot of fruit out of the can... especially tangerines.

I would eat more warm foods straight from the can if the juices didn't separate... like beef stew, the fat separates and clumps up which is disgusting.

Yuck! My father has taken cold sausages or cold chicken and just eaten cold with nothing more. I feel sick just seeing it. I need all meats to be heated, and dinner type foods must be warm. Taste is way too big an issue for me to eat it cold.

I used to do commercial driving and would have snacks on the road like that. I'd get tuna or even vienna sausages with the pull tab cans.

Vienna Sausages are kind of yucky cold because the broth will gel. So I would hold them in front of the truck heater vent.

One of the more expensive canned snacks I like is those Thai flavored tuna medleys with the spicy chili pepper in there.
