Why do so many of you lack concision?

I can't read many of your posts. They ramble on. The education system has failed so many of you, alas!

I gather that it is symptomatic of Aspergers to either be too concise to the point nobody knows what you are trying to convey or too verbose trying to explain every last tiny detail. I tend to err towards the overly concise, but there are some members gifted with verbosity.

Posts are usually for the benefit of the poster, not the reader. The audience doesn't matter when posting--if you don't like it, don't read it!

It's part of the criteria. Many of us have trouble with back-and-forth conversations - talking too much or too little. This probably would affect forum posts as well.

i try to be as concise as i know how. but some folks out there think that even if i said nothing that it would be too much already.

Or maybe you have comprehension troubles.

I hope no one feels attacked by what I wrote. In fact, many verbose people here are extremely interesting. I was merely pointing out in a busy day, I'm more likely to read all of what someone wrote if it's to the point.

I try to speak with precision rather than concision; I use however many words are necessary to say exactly what I think needs to be said. Sometimes that ends up rather short and sometimes it's quite long-winded.

We are known for monologuing and going into very fine detail! In the DSM-IV it says: " Subsequent language may be unusual in terms of the individual's preoccupation with certain topics and his or her verbosity." it also says "...development of restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, and activities..."

I am very verbose. I do not apologise for it either. I have the right to talk a lot :D . This can extend to my communication by text quite easily too. Only last night I was up until the early hours sending huge long emails (and a large number of emails) to a single person representing a body I am complaining to. Persistence is also a known AS trait :D

Because there is no social penalty for extended written communication on WP (and I'm not advocating for such a penalty to be imposed).

I'm very verbose online but not in real life.

When I'm online I can't see the person who is going to respond to my post so I feel like I'm writing to no one.

If I'm writing to no one I feel more like I'm writing in a diary than on a forum. I feel like I'm writing for myself instead of writing for other people to respond so I just say whatever I want to say. I throw all my thoughts on to the screen and I don't bother to refine them and make them more precise.

I don't do the same in public because I can see the person I'm talking to and it reminds me to give him/her a turn.

I'm sorry but online communication can be confusing for me.

What kind of response were you expecting to get from this thread?

I guess you just want to make your point that you for one won't be reading long posts any time soon this is your prerogative of course but obviously as you know this is a forum for people to vent let off steam chat ask for support etcetera which means that to get interaction and support from people they frequently need to explain in detail what their problem is because otherwise how on earth would people know what it was they wanted and how to reply? I mean seriously what do you expect it's natural to want to get it all off your chest if you have experiences that you want to talk about and you have no or very little amount of friends that you can do that with I mean where else can you go for help when there are no services out there unless you have lots of money to spend on paying a variety of specialists who understand Asperger's and autism to be able to deliver the kind of help you need? No-one makes others read their posts and it is entirely up to the individual if they read or respond to a post or not so why would you post telling people that you cannot read their posts because they are too verbose or not succinct enough. If someone was overly succinct they would be unlikely to put their issue or question across properly and sometimes you also get replies from people either refuting what you say or debating it on some level so you need to go into great detail and length to properly respond not necessarily saying that this is what happens with me just saying generally. Anyway as it's a common trait amongst Aspies to be verbose why would you question it when it is something that comes naturally to us and I happen to think it's a wonderful trait because it means that you really get to the nitty gritty of what it is you want to say and offer every possible angle or explanation for your point leaving no room for misunderstanding (which is also a common problem with Aspies) and ensuring that if you are describing an experience you are really giving others the opportunity to view it almost as if they were there which I think is a great way to do things so what is wrong with that...(fades into distance)

...just saying...forgive my humour

I have this trait as well I tend to over- explain things and my gf will usually try to cut me off with an "I know". She used to get very mad thinking my verbosity in conversation meant I thought most people were stupid and I had to break it down. At least she knows I have ASD now and understands I do not mean to be offensive.
