Im considering getting one but id like to try them in person- heh! Typical AS!!

Anyone know of any physical places in london or the uk that sell them??

I have extreme sensory problems, and love heavy weight- so i think id ge the heaviest poss. I do find the sensation really comforting; but is this simply how it goes?
Do they make a noise?? Whats the filling? Ill put it in a duvet cover, whatever it is.

Any problems i should consider?

Thanks : )

They are ever so expensive to buy, but quite easy to make.

Here is a tutorial on how to make your own. At least if it doesnt suit you, you haven't wasted loads of money.

I made my own as well, with glass beads and the materials for a quilt. It was quite affordable and I still use it.

You may get a weighted-blanket effect if you sleep under several dense blankets, such as denim blankets or a feather bed.

Hey, not everybody is into handicrafts. No shame in that.

Anybody got links to companies that sell weighted blankets?

Cheapest company I know of that makes reasonable ones is http://www.saltoftheearthweightedgear.com/

Most companies make ones that are really expensive at least compared to what I can afford. I don't know of any places that have them in person, but I'm not in London.

I made mine as well.

For a weight recommendation - you probably don't want to get too heavy of one. Recommended default weight is 10% of you weight+1 lb for a twin size blanket. Upper bound if you want a heavier blanket is 20% of your weight - heavier than that and if you are sleeping with it on you overnight, you start risking circulation issues. (This is according to my occupational therapist)

So, heaviest to look at is 20% of your body weight.

You might ask your doctor or an OT, they would probably know, but I have never seen weighted blankets, or any other physical therapy tool for that matter, in ordinary stores. I wound up having to make mine too, using the video aspigirlus put up as a matter of fact. I used sand because I didn't have any other filling, it's five pounds and took about three days. Sewing around the sand in the pockets was a little tricky, but I managed it quite successfully in the end. Frankly I'm rather annoyed that PT tools should be so expensive, it feels like they're taking monetary advantage of our different sensory needs.
