Those who have already traveled this path: Anything in particular I should keep in mind for GP appointment this Friday? Anything to stress/avoid in order to be taken seriously?

I've got the name and address of a specialist. I hope to get a referral.

You could try doing a search n this site for "adult DX".I got lots of helpful advice from folks who had been through it.I think going to the right person...experienced in adult AS,is the most helpful.I also brought in a written synopsis of all the specifics that I thought related to AS and those which I thought contradicted AS....I have a hard time remembering when stressed,so written paper helped me a great deal.It appears that different psychs have different approaches to testing.Mine was 4 30 min sessions and the personal history I had written...others give "tests".My psych stressed childhood over current expressions of AS.As adults we do learn coping skills.(If I had learned more,I wouldnt have needed DX and possible solutions.)I had hoped that they would test me for "learning and memory issues" which I felt were keeping me from achieving more in my life and help me find new ways to function in this area more effectively. That was a no-go.To bad.May eventually seek nuerologist for this assesment,as it seems more of my problem then AS.

I will say from personal experience,I found the whole process interesting but useless for me.It was interesting to learn that many of my issues have a neurological base but there is no "cure" and I wouldnt want one at the sacrifice of other elements of who I am.....ie....decided long ago, that I am who I am and I am not changing for anyone but myself.(at 43).Neither my boyfriend or mother, believe that there is any such thing as AS and if there were it doesnt apply to me and if it did then I should just "over-come" or "ignore" and pull myself up by my bootstraps and buckle-down and pray to God for healing and....(arg).Neither has any interests in learning more about it....(peoples lack of intellectual curiosity, truely con-founds me).

I wish you luck with your DX.
