Kim Peek is not autistic. He has an absence of the corpus collusum.
This condition can mimick traits of autism, but it is no autism per definition.
The weird thing is, that "Rainman", the fictional character who is known in broad public as being autistic, is based on Kim Peek who was a savant, but not autistic.

Rainman was actually based on multiple people Eloa, but Kim Peek was the main inspiration. I think they added the meltdowns and other autistic behaviors for dramatic effect.

You are right, you formulate it more precise than I did.

A couple days ago I have found on Youtube a really intersting video from a well known scientific programme on German TV and that edition was about a German woman diagnosed with Aspergers, who is author of a couple books on autism.
They also followed her doing some testing and social skills training as how to do small-talk and it is really interesting, but in the beginning of the programme it says, that the film "Rainman" made autism known to the broad audience (what it did) but finally they stated that "Kim Peek, on who the charakter of "Rainman" is based, is an autistic savant" and they show him getting an MRI-scan stating, that no abnormalities in his brain can be found, which I doubt as he is missing the corpus callosum.

It dissapointed me that they made this mistake in this programme as Kim Peek should be acknowledged for who he was and not given a diagnosis he doesn't have to "serve" the popularity of a fictional character.

What savant-skills do you have?
I can remember pi up to 1500 digits, but that is no savant-skill as the record is 67890 digits.
Basically I think that everyone would be able to remember 1500 digits from pi, but I guess that a non-autistic woman would not ever wanted to learn them as they have other priorities in live.
67890 digits are a savant skill IMO.

I can accurately predict motion down to very tiny scales.

Can you elaborate it further, because I cannot really form a picture of it.

Exactly. I can visualize entire working systems. I see ideas for machines as complete and working designs. I can run a wind tunnel and material stress tests in my head. I am a professional animator, so these skills come in handy. I can also calculate numerical color values in a 256x256x256 color space.

Me, too shrox. It drives my wife nuts when we're driving. I'm like, "We had over four inches to spare right there!" And she just howls, "You're trying to kill us!" It's useful in MANY ways. I can look at a falling object and know exactly how it will bounce when it hits the ground. And material density and rigidity, I can pretty much always guarantee when something will break something else and when it won't - by looking at it.

The word "motion" gave me the image of water in my head and of clouds continuously forming from one shape into a new shape, because "motion" is a soft word for me, a continuum, but a soft one and gives me the image of water and clouds, and I thought that it is almost impossible to predict the next shape of a cloud or water (eg. when the waves enter the beach and spread over sand and stone).
And I could not understand how to predict motions of water and clouds down to a very tiny scale, because from a cloud I could not know where it exactly begins or ends, but it is due to my mind fixating on the images I have, and now I understand what you mean.
It is a great skill you have, thank you for explaining.
