My daughter is Classical: no aspie: Autistic.

She is also non-communicative: short one word sentences occasionally (rarely) a full sentence 10 years old.

My question is for those of you who were similar at that age. And are now able to articulate what that was like. Be prepared its probably a stupid question.

For lack of better example's: Is it like you can hear. understand, and are aware of what is going on around you? Or is it like being zoned or spacing out? Where you are exclusively focused on other stimuli?

The reason I ask is I want to know if she dreams. I have been a lucid dreamer ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dream )for most of my life. I have taught my son how to lucid dream. And would like to teach Chloe. But I have no way of knowing if she hears much or understands any slightly complicated concepts I were to explain to her.

Its a very cool thing to know how to do. I would love to share it with her.

I know is sounds like a crazy stupid question. But I have a ton of those. I think most of us parents just search for any information about what our kids may be thinking.

I was uncommunicative around 8 years old and speaking well by 10.

I saw the world then just as I see the world now. Seeing and hearing things and being aware of things and understanding things about the physical world, no problem. I hyperfocused on things that I liked to do, but I wasn't spending all my time spaced out with nothing going on in my mind. There was always something going on, whether I was actively doing something or thinking about something. If I looked like I was staring into space, then I was thinking. If I looked at one thing a lot, then I probably liked that thing a lot. Not much difference between then and now.

My lack of communication was lack of instinct to communicate and lack of using language. There idea of speaking or communicating rarely occurred to me, so I rarely spoke or gestured. There was rarely any need to communicate anything.

I don't know if I would have understood lucid dreaming at that age. Probably if I read about it.

She does read some. So I could probably get a kid book that talks about dreaming to open the door for further instruction maybe ??
