Many of us on the Spectrum live fairly isolated existences socially, vocationally and academically.
We have the desire to interact with others within our own discipline and with other disciplines, to learn and expand our understanding, but we may struggle to find the people to interact with.
Often, networking at Scientific conferences is too difficult given our social challenges, so what can we do? Can you relate?

There is an Academic-focused site which has a global membership of all disciplines that will facilitate the on-line interactions that are more comfortable for those of us with ASD.

ResearchGate~~~ http://www.researchgate.net/ 2.5 million members

Full Disclosure: I have no vested interest in the promotion of this site, do not own it, did not make it, do not work for it, and will not gain in anyway if you join it.
My only intention is to inform any of you who are unaware of its existence about this option.

Take care.

While I do spend most of my time studying, my favorite subjects to discuss when out with others aren't things of the insanely geeky nature. When hanging out I like to talk about usually more simple and more laid back subjects. I think research gate is a nice concept but it doesn't deal with our underlying social issues.

Certainly it will not solve our underlying social issues. You are correct. It may, however, provide an option for those who are so inclined. :)
