who here take risperdal and how does it affects you. and should a four year old take it.
http://www.risperdal.com/.

the main reason for me asking this question is because my sister four year old is in foster care she ( well she had aspergers before) now she as the foster care system have her as severe now  and today it was a meeting for educational part. and the foster mother came out and said the doctor said something about putting her on risperdal and when my sister said no, they told my sister she was in denial about her child's autism ( which she's not ) all she want is for her child not to be drug up at four. or any other age. so the information i'm getting on this tread is very helpful, that people are saying it isn't for four year olds.

I'm on Risperidal, and I've put on a lot of weight on it. It does calm me down, so I can get through my day, and sleep at night. A 4 year old should not be on it. If I could lose at least half of that 100lb gain, I'd be a happy camper.

I was on it. It was great, until I started developing symptoms of Pancreatitis. I'd probably try it again.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should a 4 year old be on any drug of this nature.

A four year old should never EVER be on risperdal. It turned me into a zombie. I could literally no longer feel emotions. It was frightening I gained a *lot* of weight very quickly, too. FRiends of mine have also gained weight on it.

My psychiatrist put me on Risperidal about 6 years ago to see if it help with the Autism related symptoms, it had no effect and my anxiety was getting worse so he take me of it soon after.

I've been on risperdal before and I had a little bit of weight gain even at a low dosage. I do not believe that a 4 year old should be on it unless they are violent.

Just my opinion, but I would never allow a 4 y.o. to be put on Risperdal. I'd sooner put a 4 y.o. on Valium. This is anecdotal (there might be journal articles; I haven't gotten around to looking yet), but it seems like people on the spectrum may have an increased incidence of sensitivity to that class of drugs. The point being that class of drugs can sometimes have permanent side effects (movement disorders and other permanent effects) -- which are due to brain damage.

I was prescribed Risperdal once for sleep, but OMG, it made it three times as hard to get out bed in the morning. It also sapped my motivation, ability to think clearly. I also felt a bit zombified (no pleasure/emotions).

A 4 year old should not be on ANY kind of psychiatric drug! That is disgraceful!

A 4 y.o. should be on neither, but any neuroleptic is at the bottom of the list as far as I'm concerned.

I tend to have unusual reactions to meds. Risperdal made me really happy and active. It was fantastic against my depression and anxiety. The downside was that it stopped working after about 6 weeks. I was recently on Abilify and the exact same thing happened.

I think the point is that it's impossible to predict how a drug will affect any given person, and a 4 year old is not able to understand what reaction she's having, so she wouldn't be able to say if it was affecting her in a bad way or to say that the drug should be stopped. For that reason, I would not want to put a 4 year old on any powerful psychoactive drug,
