I am really worried about what's become of my boyfriend. He had an injury almost 8 months ago and had to leave his job after his benefits ran out. I am legally and financially totally separate from him for simplicity's sake, so that if anything happens to either of us, we don't drag each other down. But it pains me to see him liquifying his assets so he can pay the bills for another few months. I'm helping by tossing in my meager savings and doing a few odd jobs. I am autistic so my employment record is a blight on the face of the planet, so full time jobs tend to crash and burn. The bill for ODSP specifically stated that including him under my ODSP benefits would actually make the amount I get now become smaller due to his normally good employment record. Not gonna lie, if the monthly cheque got smaller I'd be living off dehydrated veggies and Ramon noodles again. What is challenged girl to do? I'm so anxious about all of this, but I know I have neither the mental prowess or skills to change his situation. He's trying so hard to get a job but there's nothing in this blasted town. In two months he's gonna be too broke to live in with me in this low income complex.

I'm afraid.

Keep him seperate if you can, I think the max benifit monthly is like $1137 or so, I think you just have to prove your expences to get the max number. Also any clamed work he does will have a 50% deduction of your total benifits I beleave(if he makes $10 you lose $5). I know very little about the system though other then I know people on it and dealing with it. Maybe he can play the different address game?

Can't apply to the next nearest town(s) and commute? He needs to market himself. Has he got an up-to-date CV? Has he registered with employment agencies, even for temping to tide him over? Has he been to job centres? Has he looked online? Has he considered taking a job outside of his normal area of experience just to have an income? Surely that's better than being in this horrible financial situation.

You don't say what his area of work is but the links above are just a few of the many Canadian websites where you can search for jobs.
