It was Mother's Day in the UK yesterday and my son's class at school all made their mum a card. He is nine.

I asked my son if most of the kids drew flowers for their mum. He said yes.

What did I get on my card? Not flowers but me, good 'ole Mum, drawn as a Bin Weevil!! (cartoon character and one of his current interests).

I definitely got the best card - I love it!

Having an aspie kid rocks!!

Cute. My youngest gave me a bought card but then made me two more cards, with pictures of her and her sister on, and her made-up characters called "The Twetties", along with Disney Princess Belle and Theodore Chipmunk! Who says we don't have imaginations and empathy!

Idiots, actually. A detailed internal imagination is actually a typical aspie trait as is having average or higher levels of emotional empathy, which is caring about other people. What people with autism lack is cognitive empathy, which is being able to pick up on other people's emotions through interaction.

Anyway, it sounds really sweet that your kid drew that for you, OP. It's nice to hear to hear about nice little things like this and good signs that your child loves you and has no interest in expressing that in a copy-pasted fashion. Individual, unique expression of emotion is a great thing to encourage in aspie children since many people with Asperger's can end up with alexithymia, a condition which causes them to have difficulty with expressing emotion. So yes, cute.
