For me, with some rare exceptions, I do not enjoy comedies at all. Especially stand-up or stoner-type movies.

I like some type of comedies.

But a lot of them are boring. Especially hidden camera shows, they bore me.

I hate most comedies.

Granted, there are a few I like, such as "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," but they usually just bore me.

<--- Doesn't like comedy movies, especially stoner movies. They're juvenile and appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I like Monty Python style humour and, while it's a website and not a movie, I find most Cracked articles pretty funny. Most comedy seems to just be appealing to this trend of 'randomness' being funny with maybe about one actual punchline in a 2 hour long film. Laugh tracks are also very annoying and condescending: if something's funny, why do I need to be told to laugh at it? I also really like Jon Lajoie's videos. I think stuff that's just outright ridiculous or uses clever wordplay is generally pretty funny, whereas random cruelty and noises aren't.

I never cared for them as a kid/teen. I'd rather watch an action movie, mystery, suspense etc. I just didn't find them funny, and more often than not found them stupid - even though I have a sense of humour and got the jokes, I just found the humour to be really... lame.

However, I'll watch them now. I started watching more comedies after learning that they're actually good for people's overall mood as well as problem solving abilities. Apparently we think clearer & better after taking in a comedy vs. a tragedy. So, it was a logical enough reason to be open to more comedy movies

A while later I stopped watching horror movies almost completely as they were just mind pollution. Then switched to documentaries and other films, and over the last couple years have watched very few movies at all. Now I'm open to a broad range, but don't care to fill my head with anything from the horror genre any more.

FWIW I've seen a number of comedies I really enjoyed and thought were hilarious and am now more open to watching comedies than ever. I guess seeing the logic in it years back sort of flipped a switch in my brain and allowed me to be more open to them.

I love comedies the most, especially TV series ones.

It depends on the comedies. I particularly like many of the old Bob Hope movies. My favorite two tv shows are the Burns and Allen series and the Jack Benny Show. I've never seen a Burns and Allen that didn't crack me up and most of the Jack Benny shows, but not all, would crack me up as well.

I agree that hidden camera shows are usually fairly dull and stoner movies are just dumb.

Depends on the type.

Typical popular ones, no.

But something like, O Brother, Where Art Thou? Hell yes.

I find that most comedies (movies) fail. I usually prefer the humor that is integrated in other genre of movies much better. Action comedies and some horror tend to be better than pure comedies though.

I thought "The host" (edit: I mean the Korean horror, not the new American movie) was a nice blend of dark fun and serious, as well as a nice monster movie. There was a lot of humor in the TMNT and some in the Spider man movies. 'Shaun of the dead' is fun, as is 'Dead snow'.

There are plenty of series I find funny though (Friends, How I met your mother, Two and half men, Seinfeld, Frasier, 3rd rock from the sun, Everybody loves Raymond, the King of Queens etc).

I prefer British comedies though, unless it's a film (most films are made in America), or some American comedies. But mostly I like British humour.

I can't bear cheesy, canned laughter type comedies.

I like Billy Connolly, and Russell Howard (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/russellhowar ... -mix.shtml)

Agreed. American humor to me is far too predictable and simple to be funny. I'll have already gotten the joke being set up in an American sitcom and then be bored\annoyed by the time they actually get around to telling it. I've chuckled a few times prematurely in the movie theater, leading me to think the others aren't seeing that far ahead. American humor is more about slapstick and physical comedy as well as exaggerated characters; it requires a situation to be explicitly "funny" before it'll click with audiences. British humor is more subtlety, deadpan, and involves embarrassing\absurd situations.
