This is complete BS. There is no way to separate AS and NLD because they simply aren't comparable. They go to impairments in different areas.
NLD is a learning disability.
AS is a developmental/social disability.
You can have one without the other, or you can have both.
In fact, if you have Asperger's, there's a 4/5 chance you ALSO have NLD. They are not alternative disorders in the DSM. And it's ridiculous to assert that everyone with NLD is an audio thinker while everyone with AS is a visual thinker. This just plays into stupid media stereotypes about aspies as all being computer geeks and engineers.
Quote:
Studies conducted by the Yale Child-Study Group suggest that up to 80% of children who meet the criteria for AD also have NVLD. While there are no studies on overlap in the other direction, most likely children with the more severe forms of NVLD also have AD.

The description of "NLD" actually sounds like a description of some adulthood manifestations of PDD-NOS, including mine. NLD is not in the DSM and is only a learning disability. I personally fit into this category simply because I grew out of certain autistic behaviors as I got older but lengthy videos of me as a child which I showed my physician clearly showed an autistic child. Had my repetitive behaviors and rituals continued into adulthood, and had there not been a language issue in childhood, I likely would have been diagnosed with Asperger's. NLD is simply a separate diagnosis that deals with another realm of difficulties.
ASD means I have social trouble.
NLD means I can't do most jobs.
