This question is for those diagnosed who has been drinking alcohol in their lives, and on more than one occation (so called recreational drinking or social drinking)

When i were younger, i used to follow my neurotypical friends out to pubs and bars, naturally there were alcohol involved. At times my friends would complain that they had a loss of memory. I never experienced that, even if i drank as much as they did. I do not know if they were lying because they did something embarrassing - or had a genuine memory lapse.

In your life, at a time when you were drinking lots of alcohol (at one night), have you ever had a memory lapse/blackout like that?

I have a very good memory and i remember things from when i were one years old (like i mentioned in *That other thread (link)*). Could this be an effect of autism - not getting memory lapses/blackouts in relations to drinking alcohol?

I never forget a thing, sober or drunk. But my stomach is pretty weak, so it's probable that I can't hold as much as some people without vomiting.

<--- Once went out to two bars, had five gin & tonics, and woke up in jail a day later.

I have had complete memory loss on four occasions, but all of those were extreme binges. Like, multi-liter binges.

Ok. Its just so odd that even if i had been drinking so much that i could hardly stand on my legs, i have always had a good memory of events that happened on that evening, the day after.

Oh well, it was an interesting hypothesis anyway...

I tend to have a pretty poor memory when it comes to events (as opposed to facts), but it's never been negatively affected by my alcohol consumption. There was one notable case when I pretended to forget the previous night to avoid embarrassment, but never genuine memory loss.

Only once a long time ago. I don't think autism makes us invulnerable if we over imbibe. The night in question involved a friend and myself finishing off a bottle of Jack Daniels. She told me I took a swing at her when she tried to help me to bed. I've stayed away from any hard stuff after that...

I used to go out to nightclubs on a regular basis (being from the UK this started around the age of 15) and I can remember most of the night before. I remember enough to be embarrassed by stupid things, which friend caused drama, which friend left early, who bought me tequila, dancing like an idiot, long conversations with stranger, and how I got home, but not the fine details.

The only time this wasn't the case was after being spiked, I remember being very dizzy and realising that something was wrong as I hadn't had enough to drink to have caused this, and that's all. My ex clued me in on the rest of the night, I'm not surprised that I remember nothing.

in all my life, there is only one situation where i miss some time in my memory, but it's fragmented rather then a real hole.
i usually drink more and/or faster then the ones around me, yet i seem to be affected less severely (internally), but i do make a large personality-shift.
i personally think that this is due to my constructed personality, that goes drunk and deactivates itself before the real me comes out and has to get drunk all over again, basically giving me double the tolerance on a shared memory.

i have, however, indeed claimed to not remember several things. i figured that the short-term ridicule of having forgotten a part of a night is less bad then what i'd get if i admidded to remembering and (semi)consiously deciding to do that stupid thing, since the former happens to everyone but the latter is rare in my peers

I don't think I have forgotten anything important.

I don't always remember how I got home (almost always on foot) but that is more due to nothing significant happening (I have the same lack of knowledge about similar journeys when sober).

I don't think this is particularly related to AS as many NTs have similar issues (waking up with unexplained bruises, traffic cones, people etc.)

I'm a long-time drinker and seem to forget the most important things without ever being able to regain the memories. Not sure if autism or PTSD are related.

I've never been a big drinker. I drank when i was younger, got drunk, yet never had memory loss.
I did't drink enough to get hammered, i would have a beer or two.
Now i hardly drink at all.
Too many alcoholics in the family on dads side i'd rather not turn out that way its too unhealthy among many other things.

Self diagnosed/awaiting an official diagnosis.

Yes, but only a handful of times ever, and only when I was extremely drunk - like black out drunk. Otherwise with just moderate drinking I'm able to remember things just fine. Although, I did experience having some memory loss as well as remembering events completely out of the chronological order they happened in while extremely drunk on tequila. I read a bit about tequila, and it can affect your memory. So maybe sometimes it's what they're drinking vs. just the amount of alcohol, as different chemicals in different drinks have different affects on memory - especially whatever's in tequila.

I've had a few times in my youth where I wake up after a huge night with an awful feeling I have forgotten something.
Then during the long long day after, the memories arrive.
In no particular order, like a cut and spliced horror movie, in every excruciating embarrassing detail.

On the up side, I then knew where to return the lampshade, the tutu and the roller skates

My memory is pretty bad anyway but when I drink it is awful. only takes 2 or 3 drinks and I start forgetting large periods of the evening!

Saying that, I probably shouldn't drink anyway. I heard someone explain once that for some people it is like putting the wrong fuel in a car, if you do it then it simply will not perform properly, if you continue to do it you just damage it for good.

Get too anxious so just drink the night away on my own to relax and forget.

When I was younger and didnt know about my limits, specially when it comes to hard stuff, 2 or 3 times, i forgot some memories. But normally not complete, its more about specific actions. So the first time I drank too much, I dont remember my sister made some photos, with me sitting on the toilette and posing as liberty statue with a toilette brush, and I dont remeber any of this. While on the other side, when I watched around a year later the film "The Bruce Lee Story" I was triggered by the beginning with the statues until my sister told me, that I watched this film with her afterwards the photoshooting, but she thought that I was sleeping then already. O_o

I also have memory leaks from an festival evening, but I only drank two beers (with the age of 30, so two beers never can make me that drunk) and because of me standing alone for a while, while our friends were searching friends of them and so on, not watching for my beer that stood on a party table, I think I got some KO medicaments in it by someone. So about 30 minutes afterwards I dont have any memory. So my memory ends with my friends returning back to the stage, where I waited and then we listened together to the concert. So I got told by my friends, that we left the festivals afterwards with their friends, and went by foot to one of our friends homes. I cant remember it, but according to my friends I was still actin normal then and we also were going through some woods, without problems. At the friends flat I went from talking to awkward to poorly responding and acting as if I was heavily drunk within 10 minutes, and my partner and I also slept there on the couch, because elseway he would have been forced to carry me nearly couscoiousless.

The bad thing is, that without myself and my partner knowing, that I only drank two beers, it would have seemed for me, as I drank too much and had a "normal" memory loss.

So beware of hard stuff and always keep an eye on your glass, if you dont like memory leaks. :)
