I do this with my boyfriend and I did with my son when he was a baby. Now he has the "little boy smell" which isn't bad, but not near as intoxicating as new baby smell. Plus, seven year old boys apparently don't like it when their moms smell them.

You two must be evolutionary throwbacks to our scent oriented ancestors.

I enjoy the familiar smell of some people I know well. I sniff my husband and kiddos on a daily basis, but I was always under the impression that most people probably do this? It wouldn't be the first time I thought something "strange" about myself was totally typical. I get a little upset if my husband wears any scents that mask his natural smell, and I don't allow any scented hygiene items in the house because they cover the natural smells I like (and give me a headache). The desire to sniff people or objects seems perfectly logical to me, especially considering how strongly scents are linked with memories.

ETA: husband, not husbands, ha!

I'll discretely sniff near people sometimes when I notice an odour, to try to identify it... especially if I smell alcohol or various types of smoke (more often now, after some bad experiences with someone's drinking). As for affectionately sniffing people, I only do this with my daughters (sniffing the tops of their heads)... it's like giving them a hug.

I have a good sense of smell and don't need to sniff people. I can usually smell people in my proximity without trying. IMO most people's smells are not very pleasant. Most of them have bad breath, some sweaty odor or sickening perfume smell. However, if I don't detect any smell, then I might sniff to see if I can detect anything. I do sniff many things such as food items at supermarkets or mobiles phones, paper products, plants and so on.

My gf used to like to sniff me she has a good sense of smell.

I don't like to smell people. That would require getting close to them. Obviously my gf doesn't count.

I did this when I was a kid and grew out of it. I only sniff my son now.

I like to sniff. People and things. But I try to be subtle about it. Except w/ my bf and immediate family. My family may want me to "check for odors" and my bf just freakin smells amazing.

Doesn't sound unusual to me. Why else would they sell soap, deodorant and perfume/cologne? I think some people are known for wearing their "signature scent".

And than there's all that stuff about pheromones.

I still remember how my mom smelled. My brother who I shared a room with had a distinctive (not unpleasant thank goodness) smell. I remember how his daughter smelled when I held her the day she was born...

This is kind of confusing when you have a picture of a man as your avatar.
