I use a technique called the 4 count breath to help calm and regulate some of my A.S.D clients. It works really well for them and I thought it might be time to pass on the technique.

That is somewhat similar to breathing exercises I did in therapy. In my case, the breathing exercises were introduced as a way to diminish my phobia of feeling dizzy. It's a long story... Anyway, the most effective one I learned from therapist:

Fast intake of breath, fill lungs completely, hold seven seconds, then breath out slowly. Wait thirty seconds or so, repeat twice more.

Extremely similar to various meditation methods & breathing exercises, w/ every one just as valid. If you're trying to keep things completely non-spiritual in any way shape or form, and aren't keen on the more metaphysical concepts of chakras etc something stripped down and basic like this I'm sure would still be highly beneficial.

If you're looking to add some music that's equally non-spiritual, have a look at anything from the Baroque Classical Period as it's said to be composed in a tempo closely matched to our heart rate, that's calming and focusing for our brains, making it good for relaxing as well as preparing to study.

Yes it is very similar many meditation techniques. In fact, its just a modified version ive been using for years and I tried to make as "non spiritual" as possible so the technique would reach more people.
