What kind of routines do you like or not like?

Some routine makes me feel pressured and distressed like an eating plan I got from the doctor or a weekly commitment at the same time every week.

I can't really stick to routines, so I don't particularly like them....there are some changes that can bother me especially if its too sudden however. For instance if I am planning to do something specific and then something causes a complete change of plans that can be pretty stressful to me, or if I don't know what the plan is or what's going on....like its hard to hurry if I don't even know where I'm going or why, I tend to need more time to sort of plan stuff. I am not very good at 'come on lets go!' with a vauge notion of a possible destination I may or may not want to go to.

I would hate to eat the same cereal every morning and not ever have any other brands. I would hate to only eat the exact same foods everyday and never eat anything else, that is so boring. I hear that is a routine some people have on the spectrum. I would also hate time tables. I just do what I like. I also hate restricted diets. I know some people need them to help with their mood or medical issues or bowel issues. I know I should have one too to help with my constipation but I am too lazy to do it because I hate restricted diets, too hard.

I used to have a routine that would probably shame a centurion. When I was a kid. However my rigid routine would stand out too much and bug people. I recognized that no one like the behavior. It is odd, that this period of rigid routine just happend unplanned and ended uplanned. Since then I had very little motivation to set up any routine what so ever.

While being a very mild Aspie, I do like some routines. And I do feel slightly distressed if they are changed, but it's not hard to cope with.

I get ready for work almost exactly the same way every morning. I change my routine a little bit based on new things I have to do / old things I don't need to do anymore. But generally I figure out what works for my needs, and then optimize my routine to death, and then stick with it as long as I can until something changes. I shave the same way and always shave first before anything else. And shower the same way going through all the same motions, and dry off the same way, dress the same way, etc. etc.

I always set up my laptop the same way every morning and do the same thing with my phone and coat, and I have consistent routines for getting home and going to sleep too. I change out of my business casual stuff and into street clothes, and all the stuff in my pockets and my work laptop get put in exactly the same place every day.

I notice things like hating to leave my closet door open for any reason, and feeling satisfied about keeping a consistent vitamin regimen. For lunch, when a new place to eat out opens up, I tend to go to it like 50 times in a row; then I can't stand it for a while, then it gets added back in with the other places to eat for variety.

There are variations on all these things, and I'm a lot more flexible during the rest of the day, but all these little "getting ready" routines are my anchor.

Routine is important and comforting to me but I can change it if I am the changing the routine. The hard part is when my routine is changed and I have no control over it. With a steady routine I have less to remember and know what to expect next.

If someone changes my routine on me or makes a small change of plans, I can completely lose it sometimes.

I like my own routines and my own changes.

I hate both routines and changes imposed on me by other people.

I stick to routines in certain areas vs. NT's, but I also make more changes and seek novelty in some areas than NT's. As long as what I do is up to me, I'm fine.

This is how I feel. I'm a pretty routine orientated person but it is MY routine. I do things the way I do them because I want to avoid stress and anxiety.

I like my own routines and my own changes.

Was just thinking that before I read the post, it's imposed routines that are a problem for me. That's a good distinction.

The hard part is when my routine is changed and I have no control over it .... I'm beginning to see that now, it's the same for me.
