I've had this problem my entire life where if i go to a School Dance or the mall, any place with a lot of stimulation i get Over-stimmulated and shut down, i

> become withdrawn

> sad

> anxious

> things don't seem 'real' or things are 'blank'

i don't really know what to do during that moment and will usually just leave a situation. what do?

there is nothing you can do about that; leaving the area is the best choice you can make in such moments.
you are able to improve your tolerance, over time, by regularly going to situations you know cause overstimulation, as long as you keep a quick exit available, and stay there untill just before your limit.
if you do that often enough, you will find your limit being further away every time, just as you find with other trainings (strength, speed, endurance...)

Bring ear plugs. They still allow you to hear, but they dampen the sound. I find that they also filter a lot of stuff I can't filter myself without leaving a situation.
