......you really want to get rid of but for some reason couldn't? That's what I'm going through right now. I have never been through anything like this before, and it's driving me crazy! Usually, my obsessions go away on their own, with no real effort on my part. It's instantly replaced with something else. But this one doesn't seem to want to let go. My therapist suggested trying to find other things to obsess over, but it's not working so far. I don't know what to do. I think it'll take a lot of effort to drop this obsession. Does anyone have any tips?

What's the obsession? Why do you want to get rid of it?

It's with a celebrity and the people who talk about him on these post boards I always read. Mostly the post boards though. I want get rid of it because I feel like I know all I'm ever going to know about him, and he's turned into kind of a jerk.

Justin Beiber?

You dont have to tell.

Well atleast its not an obsession that hurts your body -like cutting!

I have a thing (kinda like cutting) that I have been able to reduce over time. Partially by doing excercise.

When you think about justin bieber (or whomever) just get on an excercise bike (or somethng like that) and go a mile. Do it somemore - if he enters your head again. Then.. reward yourself with Justin bieber gossip for a limited time. Keep doing it- but gradually up the excercies goals-and reduce your celebrity thing. You will become a slender buff hottie, and the frequency of Justin Bieberism will become less and less.

I've had a couple of choice obsessions last considerably longer than all the others. But eventually those too were unconsciously dropped in favor of something else. It just took a lot longer on those occasions. Same process though. Consciously struggling to get over it, might be helping it to stick. Quite frustrating I know, but probably time will be the only cure.
