I never heard of anybody doing this unusual stim on this forum. I used to move my finger in the air over lines of objects or lines across the wall. I wouldn't touch my finger over the object. I would just outline the shape of objects with my finger in the air. I found myself doing it unintentionally when I was younger, but that stim has ceased on its own when I turned 17. I am just curious what kind of stim it is because I never heard of anybody doing it.

I did something similar, but while out on car trips. I'd take my hand and imagine it to be enormous and I'd stroke the hills and outline the trees, etc. as we passed them.

I still do that! :D I stim a lot because 1. I like it and don't care if others don't 2. I'm under very stressful conditions, physically, and don't have much of a choice anymore.
As for "why" that specific thing, I don't know.

I do this too, but never considered it to be a stim in the sense of a stim.
After a while it can go over to fast hand-circling in the air and to hand-flapping in the air.

I seem to do both the shape outline and the actual touching, though mostly the latter. I didn't think much of it being a stim, but it does make sense that it could be.

Does it have a special meaning? What do you think of (if anything) while doing it?

It doesn't have a meaning. I think I am just fascinated with lines because I like everything straight even when I write. I often rewrite letters to make the lines straighter. That explains why I dislike pens except for some. I guess I did it because it felt satisfying especially when I was bored. It's why I classify it as a stim. It's been years since I did it tough.

I do not use my hand but when in cars or whatever I would find a spot on the window and move my head around to trace out stuff

You know when people say "you just broke my dream", you've just reminded me that I used to do either that or something similar, following the lines with me eyes.

I did that when I was a kid. I'd forgotten about it.

I used to do this with my eyes when younger. I think it was more part of the OCD I had at the time though.
