I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I want to ask: Under what circumstances do you, if you do, toe walk?

For me? When I'm not wearing shoes. I can bear the pain with shoes on. Without shoes, I can't.

I used to do it when I was anxious at home; i.e. whenever there was family tension or I thought someone was peeved about something. I was actually not in a bad situation at home; I was just a very sensitive kid, who had good parents who didn't believe in hiding their emotions from their children. I felt like it was very easy for them to get a little cross over little things, but they are good people and never abusive. In fact, most often it was just my mom and dad quibbling about something with each other. I just felt like I needed them to be more easy-going.

Now that I've lived on my own since college, I never walk on my toes anymore.

When walking barefoot. When walking downhill. When pushing a shopping trolley.

I toe walked constantly as a kid, but this gradually faded away. I did it when engrossed in my special interests (often when describing them to others) and when I was really happy or excited about something.

The last time I remember doing it was before a presentation I was going to make around two or three years ago which I was really looking forward to.

^^^ This. Although I avoid shopping like the plague.
I also did ballet for years, so you kind of get away with walking on your toes and twirling, you just turn it into a ballet sequence :D

Oh yeah, true, I remember that too. I also used to toe-walk at home growing up when I was excited about something and needed to get some kind of permission for it.

I'm not sure. When the ground/floor under my feet feels horrible I toe walk -- especially if I'm not wearing socks. But sometimes I toe walk and I'm not even really aware of it.

The soles of my shoes eventually crack from all the bending I put them through.

I toe walk all the time barefoot.
When going up or down hill, including stairs.
Whenever I am pushing/pulling anything.
Whenever I need extra balance, due to slippery floors etc.
Whenever I stand in place for any amount of time I roll onto my toes and back down repeatedly, sometimes staying on them for a minute or two, and then repeating.
Whenever I am stressed, anxious, bored, or excited.

So, a lot.

Practically all the time! It drives my family nuts, but it is comfortable for me.

I did this for years when i was a kid, earned me a lot of strange looks. Not sure why i did it but i eventually got myself out of it, same with my OCD tendencies. Used to do the whole light switching thing, door closing thing, all of it.

the toe walking earned me some monster calves though lol.

cant see how toe walking INCREASES your balance, really. on slippery surfaces i just do the stiff legged granny walk.

I remember having no idea what "toe walking" was. Then I thought they meant walking on tip toes like a cat burglar to make as little noise as possible, which is what I do living in an upstairs apartment. Don't know about the other toe walking thing. It's not something I ever paid attention to in myself or amongst all the other autistic kids I went to school with.

when going up stairs barefoot, or when exuberantly happy, both only when alone.

with shoes on; only on stairs and over ledges, if i step up one level (like changing between street and sidewalk, or over a doorframe, i will take the first step on my toes before returning to a more 'general' walk.
if i am not wearing shoes: all the time, except if i deliberately choose not to
