The microwave timer going off.
I will run across the room to cancel it with a few seconds left before it goes off.

There is nothing but really nothing worse sounding than the loud & obnoxious voice of another human being outside at midnight on a weekday when you are seriously lacking sleep and have to work the day after.

That really really quiet beep that the flashing light of my dad's computer monitor on standby makes. Nobody else can hear it except me, which I find baffling.

Where do I begin (I have misophonia - problems with many sounds that I hate, Hate, HATE)

the sounds of people eating, drinking, slurping, gulping, chewing with their mouth open - even if the sounds are soft

whistling, ordinary person singing live other than as a formal performance

water being poured e.g. into cups or mugs for hot drinks

the sound of people peeing etc into water in toilets

the silver whistles blown by train guards

other sudden loud high-pitched sounds - e.g. squeaky wheels

busses releasing their compressed-air(?) controlled doors

I am sure there are more ...

A security alarm going off in a building. I can't stand the sound.

God, I could compile a catalogue.

Off the top of my head...

* The background noise of many people talking at once.
* Television static (less applicable nowadays since the digital revolution and death of VHS).
* People smacking their tongue when they eat their food.
* People eating when they are trying to talk to you.
* People who 'roll' their 'r's.
* Waterfalls.
* Sudden or unexpected loud noises.

Any kind of intrusive noise. Such as... electronic beeping, chirping etc. Car alarms. Vehicles that beep beep beep while backing up. Motors continually running like leaf blowers and wood chippers and vacuum cleaners. A police helicopter circling. Any kind of sound I can't identify. People's voices, their music etc. when it's too loud, coming through a wall. My alarm clock!

Sounds that I love? A freight train horn off in the distance late at night and fog horns.

This. Also the high frequency pitch that drills into your brain walking into some stores. I think I've read that this is done purposely in some to drive the pesky teenagers away, but it's bothersome either way.

- The sound of chalk in use.
- The sound of a dull pencil writing (this one really drives me up the wall).
- The sound of a vehicle's turn signal.
- The sounds that a muted television make.
- The sound that a gas stove makes when it's lighting.
- The sound of a dry paintbrush on a canvas (this one makes me physically uncomfortable).
- Certain peoples' laughter.
- Certain peoples' voices.

I try not to let those last two bother me since I know they can't help it (and because I know some people don't like my own voice), but I would be lying if I said that they way some people speak or laugh makes me want to pull my hair out.

1. people - usually older adults - breathing really loudly.

I'm not angry at people for breathing as audibly because it seems that genally, they cannot help breathing heavily. I cannot stop hearing it/can't shut it out however and sometimes, I'll hear it even over listening to music on headphones. It's distressing to be forced to listen to someone's heavy, squeaky and possibly irregular breathing on a train or bus.

While the ticking of an analogue clock is similarly distressing, at least that ticking is regular, unchanging in volume and therefore entirely predictable. Also, I get goosebumps from hearing some people chewing really wet-ly but unlike breathing, I know that the chewing is bound to stop sooner or later.

2. the high buzzing sounds lights and electronic devices, as well as chargers/power adapters make

I hear the buzzing sounds with a lot of lights and devices and they drive me mad.

The telephone is the biggest offender.

Also people (anyone) talking simultaneously with somebody else/something happening.

Well the breathing is bound to stop sooner or later, too.

That thing people do when they click their tongue on their teeth and sigh. I hate that.

Don't go to Germany any time soon. Not all of us do that but there is still a good amount who do.
