I just had a meltdown for the first time in 2 years a couple of hours ago. I was trying to open a luggage with a combination lock, which wouldn't open even when I entered the correct code. I figured it must have changed by accident and tried every single combination (1000 of them in about 25 mins) without success. My dad then tried and got it in about 2 mins - it was the original number with one number changed. He talked to me in a way as if I was an idiot and said I couldn't get it cause 'I tried doing it too fast'. At this point I got really pissed cause I'd tried for so long and it really felt like he'd just gotten lucky, and besides I wasn't trying all the numbers THAT fast (I was well aware of the potential problem of going too fast before I even started). I made sure each number was properly in place before trying to open the luggage, so I was pretty sure my dad was just jumping to conclusions. I suspect the lock was just faulty.

Does this seem like a cause for concern? I've had more meltdowns as a kid and is rather infrequent nowadays, and have thought I'd been doing well until now.

Hi wrongway,

I tried to post and was unsuccessful...so I hope this doesn't duplicate!

I think your frustration at this was reasonable. By then maybe aspires are more likely to aree with you :)

I think your reasons were understandable... And the gap of two years between meltdowns is something I can only dream of!

Bt often it's not the reason for a meltdown that's in question. It's the proportionate response to it.

Can I ask what your meltdown looked like?

I raised my voice when trying to argue. We didn't argue that long - eventually I yelled out 'JUST SHUT UP'. I collapsed on the bed for a few seconds, then got up and kicked the luggage hard in frustration.

PS - I double posted when making this thread and so deleted one of them, perhaps you tried to post in that one.

Sometimes I think we see ALL our behaviour as unusual, or different to the norm.

In this instance I can tell you I have seen 'normal' people (whatever that means!) behaving in a similar way, doing similar things... And although you allowed the situation to frustrate you, it wasn't THAT bad.

I think I had a meltdown last night...although mine are so common they're just normal at the minute :(

Partner was shut off from me, I couldn't read her mood, I asked and didn't feel listened to... Basically it escalated and culminated in me smashing a saucer on the floor, walking calmly upstairs and making a blanket tent over myself to shut everything out.

I hope reading that regular occurrence from me helps you feel better about yours...especially as yours are so rare!

Also remember we're not nightmares all of the times we have some great characteristics that make us great fun and interesting to be around. But, I agree, we all need to work on it!

Thanks for your response. I guess the fact it doesn't happen that often leads me to worry about this incident as I was surprised it happened. When I was younger and meltdowns were more common I didn't worry so much cause they were regular occurrences anyway. And I still do get into many situations that frustrate me which could potentially lead to meltdowns but I can often keep them under control (or maybe those incidents aren't as bad).

Ha!! That's what I though... I was thinking wow I have issues way beyond AS as mine are wayyyy worse! Seriously though, I can only hope one day I can be as well behaved as the OP. my partner says I can turn very quickly without any warning she can see or hear... I hang my head in shame a my meltdowns after they're over!

So pleased you said that! Lol
