I am yet to be diagnosed but my children have autism...I have some traits/symptoms...(I did a thread not long ago)...

I am just wondering in regards to those online tests...how accurate are they? I always seem to be getting high scores...I know it's only the internet though.

Many of those quizzes are clinical screening tools.

None of them can tell you that you're autistic, however. All they can tell you is that you might be autistic.

In my case, after scoring in the autistic range on every test I took and having gone over the signs and symptoms I displayed, I did conclude that I was autistic, and then had that confirmed with an official diagnosis a few months later.

Agree. I scored high on all the tests but still wondered if I really fit the criteria or not until actually getting diagnosed.

How do I actually GET diagnosed though? Or more the to point, where? I don't want to just walk into my gp's office and say "hey I think I might have autism..." I don't want them to think I'm being silly or whatever. My childrens' aunty was the one to take them to get diagnosed (with my permission).

Okay, I do not know who you might contact specifically. It might be worth it to go to a psychiatrist to talk about it, or contact an autism resource-type organization that might be able to point you to someone who can evaluate you. One person who might know of such things would be cyberdad.

There are some members here from Oz.

Can you amend the title or start a new post to include "Getting diagnosis in Australia".
